Default Are Canomod or Fusuno stronger than stock canopies?

I have had 2 mild wrecks with my 800 and both times the canopies and frames were trashed, more so than any other heli I've owned, Does anyone have experience with the other manufacturers canopies as far as crash durability for this heli? The frames break easy also which is caused by the weight and leverage at the skids. If it lands on one skid the frame will break at the attachments an other places on the frame. I don't see any possible answers, other than if the Fusuno or Canomod canopies are stronger, but I'm ver curious about other people experiences .

I suspect your going to be in the same boat regardless of the maker.

It's just a large canopy , being so large it can get damaged in so many ways.

Can't just fly off (like some of my 600's used to ) in a crash as it's pinned.

I had some issues trying to make my canopy last also. At 150 flights I had several repairs made to the canopy. Countless grommets , repairing grommet holes , swash links dinging canopy edges , canopy alignment posts digging into the inside and cracking outside paint , lots of little rubber covers for canopy alignment posts.

I had a crash and finished off the canopy ( even landing inverted the blades won't protect the canopy ).

Bought a new one ( brighter one like the logo 700 canopy ).

Couldn't help but recall all the fiddling and repairing I had done in the past.

After several nights of pondering and seeing what I could do to avoid having to do it again.

I was finishing up a g770 build and went with the quick release mounts , leaving behind the stock thumb screws.

I figured I'd try using the thumb screw mounts on the end of the canopy alignment posts (by motor) in a hope to keep the canopy from moving around so much. I've got several flights in so far and it's working very well.

It's a little bit of a pain to not loose and install them when putting on the canopy , but hey this is a logo 800 canopy and getting it in place is a pain in the first place.

Trimmed back the posts ( 3-4mm I recall ) then drilled and tapped them for the goblin mounts , then carefully (real small hole then make bigger in slow steps) made the hole the right size.
Fitted it with the canopy grommet and I was done.

Building up another 800 and will be doing the same thing again.

My 700 seems to be a lot better (but alot less canopy ) so I haven't done this to it.

The thumb screw mounts sound like they might be helpful. I was almost afraid to ask the question as it seems like a stupid one, but any idea that would help prevent a destroyed $150 canopy in a minor crash would be a great success. It's a no brainier that damage is imminent with something this large and heavy, but from the two simple crashes ( I hate to call them crashes as any of my others would probably not have been damaged, at least in the one that just happened) the frames and canopies are disposable, though not cheap, and changing a frame set is very time consuming. Thanks for the tip.

Martin, could you post a picture of the canopy mounts you'd did? I'm going to do the same thing.
Thanks,
Guy

No problem , here's my effort to keep canopy in 1 pc.

I'd assume the quick release would work. I was recycling parts and kept the quick release (and $25) for the goblin build

I have noticed accelerated wear on the lower rubber trim on the canopy. This canopy has 50-60 flights on it now so it's not like I'm burning the trim of it every week. Far easier to replace than the canopy holes.

I've got some similar thumbscrews from my whiplash, so I'll use those. Thanks. How's your 700 in a crash. I don't want to sound like I crash a lot, but I've had 2 mechanical failures and 1 pilot error on my 800, and every time the frame breaks, the canopy breaks and the YGE breaks off. I'm changing to a kosmic esc, the YGE was shutting down during flight. The frame and canopy is what's bothering me as they are like glass. Mikado said they beefed up the 700 frame in structural spots. I've been thinking about changing the electronics from my Whiplash to a Logo 700 but don't want to rebuild a frame if I have a minor wreck. A plow in I understand, but a tip over?

I haven't crashed my 700 , only have 50-60 flights on it because of a ESC fixing issue.

On my 800 crash I broke 1 frame side up bad , I thought it did really well considering how high and how heavy the 800 is.

I have the older 700 with the thicker frames ( 1.5mm I seem to recall , new ones are 1mm plus doublers at 1mm again ).

After years of reading the logo forums ( 500/600/se ) the consensus is that the logo heli's are made to fly well , crashing isn't there prime goal. Of course to make things worse , every crash is different.

This is what I'm doing to my 800 esc's now (and a 800 esc fitted to a 700)
