I went over and met bcflyer today and had a look at his issue. It did exactly as he described. On his first hover the tail held perfect for almost two minutes and then just started a hard drift on it's own without doing anything that would cause it.

Didn't look like any bad vibrations in the tail and the entire assy is silky smooth.

It even continues to do it after you land and spool down. I got a short video of the servo creeping on it's own. You can see where it slowly creeps even though the stick is at center. The fast move to the left is me moving the stick to watch it repeat the creep.

I verified there's no subtrim and no trim on the tail or in fact on any of the channels.
HH gain was set at 35 though I doubt it's a gain issue. I also doubt it's vibes since it will do it sitting still. Other than trying a different gyro I am out of ideas. The DX8 is fairly new so although I wouldn't rule out a bad gimbal I would think it unlikely? I did forget to check the monitor screen though.

Anyways, here's the video of the servo creeping all the way to it's limit. Thoughts?

One other thing. I changed one of the switch positions to a Rate value of -50 and I could switch it to Rate mode and it would center and act like you would expect but if I switched it back the the HH position it would start to creep again just like the video shows.

Contact assurance and get a replacement before the warranty expires, otherwise get a better gyro.

It's pretty obvious some of these gp 790s are defective.

I contacted assurance rc and sent my gyro in and they replaced it with a new one. They have great service. While I was waiting for it to arrive I purchased a spartan quark and installed that one. It seems to work fine, nice and steady. Haven't tried out the new gp790 yet.

Thanks for everyones assistance in this.

Looks just like what mine was doing, except faster. Have you flown yours at all? Mine was a slow creep if you look at the video that Larry227 posted. Mine flew great for 8 flights or so and then it started. Kinda threw a curve into things as I,m new at this. Anyway, mine seems to be solved by a new gyro. Hope you get yours solved. I've got 4 flights on my new one and it's great. Beautiful machine.

For $30.. this is a GREAT tail gyro.. I STILL fly 2 of these on 2 500's, even though I have 2 Quarks in my spares...

Spartan DS760....https://www.helifreak.com/showthread.php?t=509157

.

The spartan quark has great reviews but is pricey. I paid $150 for mine new. Blayd put you onto a great deal there. The ds760 is the predecessor to the quark and is rated as good. I'd go with that if the problem is your gyro.

Cool I don't need anything spectacular now. My main routine is ovals in both directions and some loops. I am getting good at rainbows and tic tocs on the sim so i giess I need something decent. but the 790, i will not fly it. seems sketchy. i wonder why the one on my 450 plus works?

As an experiment take the one that seems bad and stick it on your 450 and see if it does it on that one. then you'd know for sure

Quarks now a days can be found for like $55-$65. I bought my last two for $55 each..the DS760 is the last version before the quark.. and is as good as the quark...I cant tell the difference between them...and I fly 2 500's on the quark, 2 on the DS760...basically... its a great tail gyro...a best buy until you go FBL...then its on to the Spartan Vortex.....

More for troubleshooting purposes than anything, not to fly it. Just to bench check it. Hope you get it resolved soon.

Is it silly? I seem to like flying my flybar heli more. I have some flybar less helis the just seem too locked in. I like the fluid feeling in flybar .

Got my bird in the air. Everything gray but the gyro. Rate mode works perfect but not HH. I tried every reccimendation known. It is definitely the gyro. Bought a quark. Hopefully the refund diff.
