Compass Tracx FBL vs BD-3SX
Just got me a new Compass 7HV v2 and was planning on getting the BD-3SX as I'm interested in its Captain Rescue bailout function However, I just ran across the new Compass Tracx FBL system and noticed it too had a self leveling feature that rights itself up in the event you need to bail out. Before I shell out $500 I wanted to know if anyone was using the Comapass Tracx system and how does it compare to the BD-3SX bail out feature. is the BD-3SX still the better system?

FYI, the compass tracx is the same unit as the MSH Brain (original) and Ikon (rebranded) so include those in your search for the answer.
The common remark with respect to the self level in the brain is that it is more vibration sensitive then the 3SX.

I use different systems and when it comes to serious bailout function - the BD3SX still is the market leader. Others can self level - just bail out in any situation (except already hitting the ground) worked fine for me so far only with BD3SX. A few folks at the field bit the bullet and got themselves a BD3SX and actually ended up using it a few times. Each crash would have paid for the price difference you pay.
In addition the system itself is an awesome FBL system with great flight characteristics. I an tune them as well asI do my vbar or ikon systems. I guess there is a reason why the price did not yet come down. There is no other system on the market with the same feature (not talking leveling - talking bailout). |

also, only the 3SX adds pitch during the rescue to get away from the ground. Vibrations are of little impact. I have it working on two gassers and a 550 electric.

The Brain/iKON/TracX self level can work quite well if you isolate it from vibrations but it's only a self level. The 3SX will level either inverted or upright and apply collective as required to go towards the sky and it's never once failed in my testing.

I've been told that the newest Skookum model with GPS can act similar to the 3SX but I think its even more expensive.

With the gps it is more expensive, but it has more features.

Not sure the new SK will work with the vibes on a gasser. The original 720 SL did not work.

just trying to be fair. I said on some other thread that the 3SX is the only FBL that adds pitch and I was corrected that the 720-GPS does it of course at near twice the cost.

For me, I saved 300 dollars and got an ikon. I just add collective. I have found in my case adding pitch is not the problem but level orientation is.

The HC3SX will probably work on a gasser though, since it has no accelerometers to get confused.
