Question Flash link and simplex connections

Just got the Flash Link and Simplex adapter. Looked at the connection diagram.
I have just two questions. Why does the Simplex adaptor terminate @ the RX?
Second question; do I need to power up the RX, and why.
I thought the power would come from the usb port, and all programing would be retained by the gyro via the software and laptop interface.
Oh, wait a third question. Do I need to turn on the tx as well?
I'm confused.

Because as indicated in the connection digram: The gyro must be powered via the receiver. Also see here: http://www.spartan-rc.com/resources/....php?topic=136

Various reasons including backward compatibility, using bluetooth that does not provide power and most importantly... USB does not provide enough power for your tail servo.

I don't think it will cause any problem if you don't but you should probably have it on if you are setting up the gyro so you can confirm endpoint travel and pitch direction.

Jumped in with both feet with the Flash Link and laptop today. Got it done.

Most people here would not think twice about such an upgrade,
but it is a Big learning curve for me.

I'm older and have taken on this hobby without any help
other than this site and a few others.
I've tamed the Quark beast.

Kudos to Angelos for the poke to get my brain working
