I took the main shaft out and checked it seemed OK but maybe I should just change it and try it again.

Wow double post sorry. I guess this really means I should replace the bearing.

Update. After changing the bottom bearing I could still hear the noise. May not quite as loud but still there.

MPSHEP (Matt) we were emailing each other because I bought some Synergy E5 parts from him. He said he was thinking about my noise and said to check if I had vertical play in the vertical tail transmition shaft. I checked and I did have a very small amount of play up and down. I checked my 635 and it didn't seem to have any or not as much. I took the 700 tail boom out and removed the front boom case. I added one shim to remove any vertical play. Now I have to go test it. Put it all back together.

Glad you found the issue and finally got it resolved. What a find, never would have thought about Matt's suggestion.

Matts help is really appreciated. I didn't think to look there either. I am really happy that it is flying great now.

That happened to me once as well. I would recommend changing the front TT gears, because that vertical play can cause them to slip, and chew each other up. Especially with the power of an electric.

On another note, the one way hub can cause problems as well. I had an older model ENV at first, which had the old auto unit, that didn't have any set screws in it. The steel sleeve broke free a few times on me, no matter what I did. A friend and I, back a few years, took it apart and machined 3 set screw holes, at 120 degrees like a swash, and slightly flattened the touching points on the sleeve. About 6 months later, Rave kits started coming with this setup in the box. (Not taking credit, but he did email CYE about our problem, and how we fixed it.. so it's awfully good timing. )
After that mod, I was able to run a monster Scorpion, and now it's running nitro no problem. Same auto hub I modified almost 3 years ago.

Point is, this was my first idea of what your problem was. Glad to see you fixed it though.
The new hubs do come with the set screws in it. However, it's a very good idea to double check it. Make sure the set screws are fully blue loctited, and slather (being careful of the bearings) the steel sleeve with green loctite in the aluminum hub. Then, you will never have to think of it again.

Thanks, Mine has the set screw in the one way housing. I bought this heli used but I took it right apart and replaced almost everything. I mean everything. I am very fussy and wanted it in new condition. One of the guys at the club warned me about the slipping sleeve in the one way housing. He took it a part and drilled and tapped and installed a set screw.

I have the metal front and back helical gears. They are not worn. This heli is basically new. I don't have very many flights on it since building it. It took me a while to get everything perfect. I just went through the setup again with a laser level for the swash, set the pitch to 12.5 and it flies great now.

Glad the noise is gone Ken! I had the same problem with the auto hub as well and added two set screws and green loctite and it is solid now.

These truly are great helis with not much following but at least we know what we have!
