Default Piston skirt

This is a OS 55HZ and as you can see the chip in the skirt should I replace it or will it be ok. My next question is what would have caused it to break off?

Did you use an engine crank lock tool to tighten your fan hub on to the crank shaft?

I've seen the skirt become damaged when guys use the crank shaft locking tool with the piston at BDC. The skirt gets pressed against the crank shaft locking tool and gets damaged as your tightening the nut. Piston needs to be TDC when using the tool.

Took the engine apart to check bearings and discovered the chip in skirt, had lots of movement in piston pin so I have decided to change piston, ring, pin and clips also. I never use a locking tool on it don't know how it got broke.
