Default NEW OWB on Main Shaft (being tested)!

Dear All,

I recently inquired about potential changes to the One Way Bearing on the original Whiplash E and EX. I upgraded to the last bearing being sold with the EX, but it still had an issue with slipping intermittently. So to my surprise and delight I received the following response:

Yes, we know about the OWB problem. The EX has a problem too.
Together with the manufacturer of the sprag element we developed several OWB to be placed at the same position like the original one. The high revolution speed and the vibrations caused by the engines made it impossible to develop an affordable OWB. So we have stopped development and prototyping of that type of OWB. Now the OWB will be placed at the main shaft. Parts for prototyping are in production now. If the test results are successfull we will ship the new conversion kit.

This is great news! The only issue I ever had with my Whiplash was with the one-way pinion bearing. Other than that the Whiplash has a great presence in the air and is top-notch in fit and finish. The remedy of the OWB issue will go a long way in ensuring that those owning Whiplash helis will enjoy their helis for years to come.

Also my hope (and I am sure MA's hope) is that others will be compelled to try MA helis.

I am waiting for the update and I will be front and center when it is available!

This sounds like good news. The classic MA birds always had an OWB on the mainshaft/main gear.

Not yet. Last I talked to them, they were still testing the new position of the OWB.

For now i am flying the stop gap one way on my gasser and it's now getting installed in my MA nitro build too.

This one way does pretty well esp if kept oiled well.

Hopefully we see the new design soon!

Wow, I posted this 9 months ago. I still see no update on the OWB reconfiguration. Is this still in the works? Has anyone got an update?

Yes, things are moving along. The new Whiplash G2 has the OWB on the main shaft and kits will be available very soon. As far as I know, there will be conversion kits available for the previous versions

Go to the gasser room. A couple team pilots just got prototype kits to build.
