Black Tail Pitch Slider
Hi All,
I've been installing the torque tube kit on my ol' 600 GF. When I had the tail apart I noticed that the bearings in the tail pitch slider were bad. Unfortunately, when I was unscrewing the pitch assembly I damaged the brass slider (like an idiot). Lucky for me, a new black slider was included in the torque-tube upgrade kit. This slider doesn't seem nearly as smooth as the brass one did (if I remember right... I may just be spoiled by the Vibe tail). Is there a either a way to make this thing smoother or a way to get ahold of brass sliders? Thanks, Jason

Well you made me go look at the tails on my CF and ESP and the CF's stock slider is brass, and my new ESP is black as you said, and I looked at the extra slider I got with the TT kit for the CF and it is also black. Looks like they changed to what ever the black material is on all the new kits/models... Maybe if you get a stock replacement slider for a GF or CF then you can get the brass piece. If you want to make it as smooth. Go get some 1000/ 1500 or higher grit wet/sand paper and a wooden dowel that is just small enough for you to wrap the paper around. I think that would work?
On a side note, since I have a CF with TT and the brass slider and ESP with the black slider. I can't tell a difference in tension or resistance when I move the push rod by hand. That is when its disconnected from the servo. Best of luck. |

I just put some twisting force (like you are trying the bend the tail shaft) on the black sleeve with my fingers and moved it back and forth forcefully on the shaft while turning the shaft about 50 times, then changed the position 180 degrees to twist the other way - it became super smooth afterward, it seems that the shaft will knock off the microburrs that are on the inside of the new style black sleeve. I would be afraid to sand it since there is a very thin surface hardening treatment that Align has applied, then soft Aluminum right below that surface.

I've been messing with the twisting deal for a bit. It seems to be starting to loosen up. I wonder if a different oil might help out a bit too... maybe something a touch thicker than I've been using will stick to the anodizing better???? We'll see... I hope to get it all together tonight... wanna do the 12S maiden on saturday!
