Default Another 120HV Up In Smoke

Hi Guys,

Just finished installing a new Beast-X in my Stretch Trex 550e. Took me hours of making sure it was a clean connection but I haven't touched the ESC at all. Spooled her up without main blades to check if the Gyro would hold the tail on the ground. For about 10 seconds she was spooling nicely at a low speed, I was about to shut it down when all of a sudden smoke comes out of the ESC and it caught fire. Immediately pulled the battery and I was lucky the fire didn't get worse. Nearly burned my heli and probably the lounge room as well.

I heard people with this problem before with the 120HV and on the hindsight I felt its only a matter of time before it happen to me. I only had 20 flights on the 120HV on the contrary I had about 150 flights with the stock Align ESC with no issues at all and that's running a 4025-1100 Scorpion motor/550 blades!!!!!!

Not too sure about my next ESC, Sorry to winge guys just feeling really shitty about it at the moment.

There was a service recall for the HV120 in July this year and all units should be send back to CC for replacement of new HV Ice 2 free of charge. Now that you ignore the service recall and continue to fly with the unit, I doubt that they will send you a replacement.

I was away on holiday on June and didn't get back home until recently consequently I didn't know about the recall but even thou I have known about the recall I probably would not bother with it anyway because you just cant trust a recalled and serviced product especially something vital as an ESC in a heli.

Castle posted the latest 'service advisory' on August 20. They stated that they had found an issue where a supplier changed components without their knowledge that was causing an issue and requested ALL HV controllers be sent in for replacement. They also sent emails to all who had registered their ESC's stating the same with instructions on how to send your ESC in for replacement. So far there have been no issues seen with the ICEHV2 series of controllers.
I would contact Castle and see what they will do.

Well that is a pretty strange attitude!

But I bet CC will replace your ESC, since the fault is in the ESC.

There has been 1 that did a melt down. Pictures were even posted in these forums. Hopefully it stays at just the 1 but only time will tell.

Just a weird comment. I rarely find that the report of what was wrong and
what was replaced contains information of value. Wordage is vague.

In an effort to determine exactly what they did, sometimes I will do things like...

Take an exacto knife and make a tiny scratch in the case somewhere.
Put a tiny black dot on an electronic component on the board.
Nip off a super tiny piece of wire insulation in an out of the way place.
Nothing the factory would ever notice.

When my unit gets back to me I have a much better chance of
determining what they did.

Sorry man I have already thrown it in the bin. Guess I was just a hot head. Sorry guys just want to let off steam. At the moment Ive just finished my 6s. Trex 450 FBL Beast X stretch with a Protos on order on the way, that cooled my head. The 550 is still in the shelf and gathering dust waiting for it's new esc, not too sure about it's next esc but. Once again my apologies for being a hot head.

No problem, sometime it's so frustrating, I would have probably react the same.

I would not have bought it anyway, it's like stealing you.
