Question How does the flymentor detect the horizon?

My Co-Pilot (FMA) has eye's that can see the horizon even if it's miles away.

When you let go of the sticks on the Flymentor how does it find level if it can
only see straight down?

I'm considering trying the Flymentor when I figure the above out...

Thank, Bob

It does not ... It uses the camera that looks downward and detects changes in the terrain. AS far as I know ...

Since Flymentor is based on a three axis gyro, on initialisations the gyros know their neutral position which is setup to a level swash and flight during installation.

In position mode the CCD sensor senses a change in its ground image and will initiate opposite action on the swash to return to the original image it detected. In balance mode any divination from level flight at zero cyclic gets re-balanced by the gyros as would the tail on your heli. This will return the heli to level flight but drift is still possible subject to the breeze.

In position mode if the contrast of the perceived ground image is strong enough the heli will hover hands free even in mild winds. This is effective up to about an altitude of about 6-10 feet. Balance mode will work at any altitude.

So you could say FM creates its own virtual or artificial horizon.

Hope thit helps

Yeah... thanks that helps somewhat.

I guess I'll try one...if I can find one, everyone's sold out.

Thanks, Bob
