Default 500mx self destruct

Just hovering around over the weekend and suddenly I had no power. Thought I blew the one way out but when I got home I found this. All but part of one magnet came loose and the motor shaft was snapped at the top.

Anyone have this happen? I bought this brand new..maybe a defect?

what would be a good replacement motor?

How many flights did you have on it? If it's still relatively new, then you should be able to get it replaced. It looks like one of the magnets came loose and jammed up the motor, which is going to break a lot of stuff. That's also not something that can easily be attributed to "user error", so you shouldn't have too much difficulty getting a replacement.

If you wanted a different motor, there are all kinds of options, depending on how much you want to spend. On the cheap end, there is the Turnigy Typhoon 1800Kv motor. My 500 came with one of those, and it is just about the only original component I have left on my 500. I just haven't had any reason to change it out. Scorpion motors are always good. The 3226-1600Kv is a little more efficient if you want longer flight times, and the 3226-1400Kv has a little more grunt for smack 3D style flying.

Default 500MX

The same thing happened to me with two of those motors and I do not even fly 3d just sport flying around. I have 2 Trex 500 Pro DFC going into a fuse and replaced them with the Scorpion 3226 1600kv and 3226 1400kv and never looked back. My Scorpions have Boca bearings on them, so no worries on oiling them every 10 flights. No magnets coming loose or motor disintegrating on you.

Yep just email support at sales@alignrcusa.com and ask if its a new motor they should replace, if its an old motor they have had 1/2 price replacement when you send in the damaged motor. I've had defective HV servos replaced on a used heli I purchased and an old 500MX motor that the bearings went bad in and did some grinding on the magnets, otherwise I've never had a problem with an Align motor, but that's just my experience.

my 500mx happened this in only one week. the seller said that align would not offer me another engine. then I bought a scorpion 3226-1600kv, who never gave problems to three years. with ceramic bearings.

Can the stock ESC handle this motor? what is the min amp esc I need to run the scorpion 1600?

yeah the stock esc can handle it depnd of your gearing. I run kde 1450kv with 12t-134t no problem every thing stay cokd. next season try 13t and probably 14t still with the stock esc

That depends on your flight style. I run the 1400kv 3226 with 423mm blades, 162T/16T governed, 2750rpm, 13 degrees collective, and 2700mah pack. My flight style is fairly fairly hard 3D with some fast big air thrown in.

I run the 75A Castle Edge. Highest peaks i've seen have been 86 amps with the logging set at the highest hertz setting (to get the most detailed data).

My machine is relatively light weight. I would recommend a minimum of 75A with the 3226 series motors. You can run the stock ESC but if you start to really push it or run higher headspeeds/higher pitch curves you might get some issues. Also, if you are running 450-470mm blades you definitely want a bigger ESC.

Ideally, a YGE 90LV or Talon 90, Edge 100A would be best for these motors to get the most out of them.

Don't forget the HobbyWing 100A V3. Very good ESCs at a very good price. And a very powerful internal BEC.

Align has the worst customer service ever. After going back and forth with Mr. Willy Pong and sending him countless pictures I have not received a reply back in over 2 months. I have been sending an email a week saying I am waiting their response. What a piece of crap company.

Align embodies the "faceless corporation" image. I have seen zero interaction between them and us, even when we've all been screaming for a fix for years (Trex 600 TT gear stripping issue). I really can't complain about either of my Align helis, but I have no interest in buying another.

Yeah, and just today my friend sent me a message about him having his 600MX die on him. It won't move after he landed (won't rotate). I suspect magnet failure and stuck. We'll see after he takes it apart
