Default Miniature Bearing Packer Sketch

Attached is a hand drawn sketch that was used to build my prototype miniature bearing packer along with a couple of 3D renderings from eMachineShop.com CAD software.

NOTE that the actual prototype was made 1" OD instead of 3/4" OD as listed on the sketch.

Regards,

John

Unless I missed it, I don't think anyone in this thread mentioned greasing damaged bearings.

The idea behind regreasing is preventive maintenance so the bearings will run smoothly and last a long time.

Happy flying,

John

Default Bearing Packer

Does this really work. Can it get grease inside of the shields?

the point is once a bearing is in need of "regreasing", its probably notchy, right? that notchyness doesn't go away, that's in the balls and races inside the bearing. putting a ton of grease in it will just make it smooth until you run it again.

I respectfully disagree with your thinking on this.

I happen to have a travel trailer on which I clean and regrease the bearings annually to prevent them from wearing out. I don't wait until the bearings are worn or failing before I clean and regrease them.

Well my RC heli is the same way. Depending on the flight hours accumulated over the year, I'll pull and regrease the bearings annually as a preventive measure. I don't wait until they get notchy to lubricate them, but if I did detect a notchy bearing prior to regreasing, yes I'd certainly replace it!
