Default New Diabolo Black Edition maiden

I’ve finally finished this heli and conducted the maiden flight today. The machine felt extremely locked in, it hovered hands-off on the first takeoff. I must add that the customer service from Gerd has been excellent! I picked up the kit in person from the Minicopter factory and since then, Gerd has been accessible on his personal phone to answer the few questions I had during the build.

Setup:
-Diabolo Black Edition with Diabolo L lower frames, carbon landing bows and rubber belt tensioner.
-Titanium frame screws (70g weight savings).
-FBL unit: Vbar NEO with Vlink.
-Motor: Pyro 850-50 competition (18T pinion = 10.91:1 gear ratio).
-ESC: Kosmik 200 with Mikado Telme unit for telemetry.
-Cyclic servos: Futaba BLS 273sv.
-Tail servo: Futaba BLS 276sv.
-Main blades: VTX 717.
-Tail blades: Rail 116mm.
-Batteries: 2x 7S 4400 mah Thunder Power 70C Rampage series.

Headspeeds:
Bank 1: 70% throttle – 1800 rpm
Bank 2: 74% throttle – 1900 rpm
Bank 3: 78% throttle – 2000 rpm

Below are some pictures of the new flagship of my fleet.

The Vbar NEO reported vibrations of 480 on the first spool up at 2000 rpm with blades on. Not sure how good these results are.

I forgot to post the weight of this beast. 5.57 kg ready-to-fly at the moment. I'm hoping to reduce this by about 70g when Minicopter releases the much anticipated carbon fiber canopy. Then I should be able to get the weight down to 5.5 kg (12.1 lbs). Quite respectable for a 14S Pyro 850 setup.

Fastest and the most stable machine iv ever flown

Throw away anything at it and you will feel locked in the whole flight.

iv flown it at 1600,1800,2000 and 2200 and it is a monster..

Default New Diabolo Black Edition maiden

What's the story on the top gear on the main shaft? My black edition has a steel gear there. Yours looks like the delrin or peek or whatever. You didn't convert it over to the smaller main shaft to go with standard gears did you?

I ask because since I won't likely fly aggressively enough to strip that gear in flight, I thought maybe I'd switch from a steel gear to a plastic one to reduce the need for lube between gears. I didn't think such a conversion was possible, without going to a smaller main shaft, and therefore the head, spindle, grips, etc...

The Black Edition now comes with high strength peek intermediate and main gears. They have been handling the power of the 850 competition pyro with no problem (3D flying). The peek gear is considerably lighter than the steel. The main shaft is the same diameter as yours.

Hmm... cool :-). I'll have to check into picking those gears up one of these days. Thanks!
