Well it was bound to happen :(
My First crash
Well was doing MUCH better flying before the crash, here is a vid Then at the end of this vid shear destruction! (crash not caught on tape) [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dRKdSNzwKuw[/ame] Now for the pics of the crash This is how the blades were found after the crash, Scary! The bird hit so hard it bouched, it got at a angle kinda behind me, I got disoriented and it was over. Everyone says the first crash is the hardest, I hope that is the case. Luckily the damage was not as bad as it looked. Hopefully I can get it back in the air by the weekend. |

If I were you, install a copilot 2 flight stablization on your bird and you will have no more disorientation crashes. Good luck with you repair. Make sure you have dremel with a cut off wheel to remove your flybar which seems pretty twisted.

No I would not put a co-pilot system on it, I was trygin to push it, Was getting anxious, excited, and a little cocky. LOL It was my fault.
Yup I cut the twisted flybar and it came right out. I had 90% of the parts to fix it anyway, total rebuild only cost me 15.00, and by buying the replacement parts will aslo leave me with more spares, so I should be good to go. So I have a pretty good idea on what is going to break now in a hard crash (well at least can make good spare part choices.) I bent main shaft fly bar broke one HS-65MG servo arm bend 2 of the wire type linkages snapped long ball linkage stripped 3 teeth off the main gear, so replaced that as well. a set of wooden blades. Looked alot worse then it really was, and the actual crash looked alot worse then it actually was. Hey we all have to crash!, First one is out of the way, hopefully flying will actually become better due to not being afraid anymore of crashing. |

I will be glad though when I start crashing because I am pushing the limit, not because I have dumb thumbs.

I've been flying continiously for two years now on a daily basis and only just recently seen my crashrate go down. Now, it's mostly due to mechanical problems that my bird goes down, but jikes, i've still got a lot to learn. And yes, that's about everyone's story around here, but then again, it takes some effort to become, a real "freak".

If you let the heli get above you as you found out it never ends well. Keep it in front of you so you never have to spin around to see the heli.

Once I was flying my 600 and got disoriented and the heli fell out of the sky just when I thought it was going to hit the ground. I saved it at the last second like a foot off the ground, I flipped it over and full negative it shot back up in the air. Then I did the same thing a few months later but this time I hit the tail on the ground over cement and still recovered and flew it back and landed. The tail rotor blades were half their length, but that's all the damage it caused I'm suprized it still flew.

Yesterday evening after cracking about my 6th set of blades and my 4th set of rear TT gears, I was ready to patch my TRex 450 Pro up one more time and sell it for whatever I could get for it. I was fed up with it. Like many, I am learning to fly this bird by myself. I am making mistakes and a bit of progress. I've had been at it a couple months now after spending a year in coaxial land and a little time with fixed pitch single rotor. Yesterday I was just frustrated. I figured this bird was no more than a black hole in the air that you throw money into. I had wanted to learn how to fly this bird, not repair it. I felt that way until I came upon this thread. I feel a bit better now. I am beginning to suspect I am not the only one having a steep learning curve with this bird. I am thinking most folks don't build this thing and have it doing full 3D in two weeks of flying every other day. I am thinking there are going to be a few more times of picking up the broken pieces and sitting down at the workbench to put this [CENSORED] heli back together again.
This is called "fun", right? |

Yep there is a steep learning curve, but keep at it, once it clicks in your head and you can fly that bad boy around you will love it.
I too was very frustrated while learning how to fly many years ago before the trex 450 was on the market. I flew a piccolo pro while learning and must have crashed a hundred times before I could hover. And I quit and gave up, but after a month I decided to give it another shot and boy I'm glad I did, it finally clicked in my head and I was hovering in no time. Been flying ever sence.

Yeah I know I will crash more.. I do not want to but I know it will happen, The thing I hate the most is waiting for parts!! No hobby shop around me. I am waiting on one stupid HS-65MG serv arm. Damn things, I will have a couple spares this time. Won;t be here until Monday! That is not doing me any good right now, Monday I am back at work!! GRRRR.......... it sucks.
But yes learning curve sucks, and my crash sucked, but I know I am getting better, and that makes the crashing a little easier. George |
