I have a leak between my Hatori muffler and the metal spacer attached to the motor. I did not use a gasket when bolting the metal spacer to the motor nor did I use a gasket when bolting the muffler to the spacer. There were no gaskets included with the Hatori muffler so I assumed they weren't needed. Also, when I noticed there was a leak I tried tightening the bolts but they were tight. What's the proper procedure for sealing the muffler and spacer to the motor: gaskets or no gaskets? Thanks. BTW, this is on a Spectra G with a 231 TRM motor and it has about one third of a gallon through it so far.

What about some copper gaskets ?

Well on monday or tuesday I can give you a more precise
answer ( thats when I get my Hatori #957 )

I have same helicopter and engien as you

BTW what about the rattling sound ?

No gaskets. Just some red (heat rezistant) silicone.

Bo, the rattling sound turned out to be gear noise that was exaggerated because I was running without a canopy on. So it turns out that everything is okay in that department. As for the Hatori, I don't believe it will seal without some kind of gasket. Red Sky, where do you get heat resistant silicone and will it hold up to this kind of environment? Thanks.

Are these mufflers supposed to seal without any gaskets?

I bought this silicone from a shop that sells auto parts. You can see it between the engine body and the cylinder on G231. TRM use the same for sealing (I think).
I have at least 50 flights on my Spectra with no leaking at all.

Red is spot on.

Just get some Loctite 518 flange sealant Master Gasket.
Clean both sides with Alcohol/Methylated Spirit.
Apply just the thinnest film to both sides
Bolt together (no other gasket in between). Let sit overnight.
Done....no more leaks.
I haven't had a leak for years now, this tube will last me for another 20 years.
