Tail servo ?'s

What is currently the best tail servo for the 250? What about a preferred metal tail servo mount?

The best is said to be the MKS DS95i. They'll run you about $100, I've never used one though, I've been content with the Align 420.

I use the Align metal mount. It does the job quite well, anything more is just bling. I prefer the metal to the plastic ones, they never move unless you want them to, and I've never had a servo losen up in them either. For $10, I've never had to replace one.

I have the Ds95i and can vouch for it's shear awesomeness, I mean titanium solid, metal gears ... shiz is metal gear solid! O.o

But ... she is a porker HEAVY

My stock Ds420 died in less than a dozen flights, I envy those who's have not died yet, I mean seriously who wouldn't want something that says 420!!!! O.o

My next servo was an SG90 ... LOVE these servos everywhere else, but NEVER on a heli tail!

Than I went with the legendary JR Ds290g LOVED this servo when I had my 401B gyro clone, but when I upgraded to a Qwark this servo went quarky. O.o

So if you want the best, most feel the Ds95 or Ds95i, JR 3500.

If you want a good servo that will keep the weight down, get the Ds290g

Somehow the tail servos of the 250 die quickly. Perhaps that rapid wagging kills them.
My align DS-420 lasted a dozen or so flights before the servo motor completely died (on 5V).
My turnigy ds480 (supposed to be the same as MKS ds480) lasted a couple hundred flights
and the motor also died (also on 5V).

I tried a futaba s9257 briefly, but it was really too big. It didn't fit the servo mount.

Now I'm on a hitec 5084 (about 30 flights), this seems to work the best (with a slight wag when it is windy, but no wag at all when it is calm). We'll see how long it lasts.

Personally, I think, like most things, sometimes you just get a lemon. On the 420s I've had for my 250s, one lasted about 20 flights before it fried, it's replacement is going on just south of 200 flights now. Servos this size are a real crap shoot IMHO. I would hope that if your shelling out $100 each, the MKS better have some great QC.

I have tried the Jr 3500g, Jr290g, and a futaba bls257 on my se. Imo the bls servo was the best out of the three..

I've heard folks say that not just any servo will run the higher voltage and last very long. Which servo seems to do the higher voltage the longest?

The DS95 is so awsome, its a cyclic servo that i have seen used as a tail servo, they are that great. So the DS95i that is actually made for the tail is just pure gold. Beside the cost, the only draw back is the weith. They are still the best ATM.

The MKS DS 95i is a little pricy for me at the moment. I ordered the MKS DS 480 for my HK 250.http://www.amainhobbies.com/product_...-Digital-Servo

I currently have a Quark Clear case gyro and a Blade SR servo on the tail. Its very flyable but I don't feel quite good enough about it to hover inverted. I've done some back flips with it but thats about it.

If you look at the specs on the MKS 480 it is quite fast

• Operating Speed (4.8V): 0.068 sec/60° degrees at no load
• Operating Speed (5.0V): 0.065 sec/60° degrees at no load
• Stall Torque (4.8V): 25.7 oz/in (1.85 kg.cm)
• Stall Torque (5.0V): 26.8 oz/in (1.93 kg.cm)

and still a very light servo for the 250, plus they give the Working frequency: 1520μs / 333hz which is necessary info to choose the servo type in the Quark servo setup mode. Thats hard info to find sometimes on cheap servos. I never did find it for the Eflite DS75 servo.

let me know how that servo works out, I recall someone else had that servo and I'm now a HUGE fan of MKS.

I sure will man. I can't wait to try it out. These shortened day light hours in the winter months sure limit flying time during the week. Most of the time its to dark to fly when I get home.

Hey man, the MKS DS480 servo is working great . Im still getting some mild twitching on left circles. I think the HK elbow link has some play in it and needs replacing with an Align link.
