Default Would you fly these?

Made a stupid mistake today, disengaged the throttle hold when the stick was near 75%

The blade smacked back into the grip. Should I fly it or get a new set?

I was leaning that way too. It's like trying to revive a dead lipo.

oh no. if you were not able to see inside the blade, then I would say yes, but that is too deep. I have a few sets that I fly that I just folded up and dented, but that is too much.

sorry, I know it sucks having to throw away blades that only have such a small chip in them, but its worth the safety factor.

It doesn't look to be in a area that has any structural importance but you could contact the blade manufacturer for their opinion.

+1. As those blades do not seem to have anything structural in that area they may well be OK, so I suggest that you check with the manufacturer.

I could do that, but the manufacturer is Edge Rotor Blades and I heard that they stopped production or went out of business or something along those lines.

From the middle of the root hole to the tip, they are 720 mm. Is that how you are supposed to measure them?

If they are Edge blades, then they were manufactured by FunKey. All Funkey manufactured blades, that I know of, do not have anything structural in that area.

They all have a great safety feature which is a safety wire built in, that go around the bolt hole, and out along the leading edge to the tip. That is why when the blade comes into contact with the ground during a crash it will not come apart and have pieces fly away into someone or something of value.

I talked to a guy at the field about them and he told me as long as there are no other cracks, they should be OK. He had had the same problem with a similar set of blades. He told me to simply sand the area around the dent/chip and fill it in with epoxy (I used JB Kwik-Weld).

I'm going to go over the area again and smooth it down further, then I'll post a picture of the work.

Only time will tell!

Didn't even see your post, thanks!

I had heard they were distributed by ReadyHeli and since they are kaput, no more Edge blades are to be had. At least that's what a fellow pilot at the field told me (the same one who recommended the epoxy repair).

Default Blade Repair Pictures

Attached are the pictures of the blade I repaired.

The one on the top is the side that was facing up, the one on the bottom is, well, you get the idea.

I filled the dent/chip in with JB KwikWeld, I think it looks pretty good.

Nothing wrong with that! A little white paint and good to go.

Default It...could...WORK!

Put three flights on these today, nothing crazy, just some hovering around. They're still in one piece so I'd say it's a win!
