Default compass logo facing in or out on ball links?

I get several answers and was told on the knights the logo went facing in,
but I have a new plus fbl and just got curious what the fact is,for some reason mine fit better facing in,
any body used kbdd green dampeners in the fbl plus?

On my 3d plus the pre assembled parts came with the compass lettering facing out.

I put all mine with the Compass lettering on the inside. In my experience, the raised ridge on that side of the hole makes the ball link seat more securely on the ball, i.e. it won't pop off as easily.

In practice, I don't think it matters that much.

Unless they are somehow different than everyone else - out. Look at the video here and eventually he will tell you to put the "A" out. http://video.helifreak.com/?subpath=...l_Links101.wmv

I've always assembled w. logo facing out as they're easier to pop on/off during the build.

I have put them Logo facing outwards. I think as long as you ream them out with the tool facing the same way as your ball would snap on it wouldn't matter too much?

In my professional mechanical opinion I would rather have the insurance knowing the links are on more secure. Popping them on and off with a good set of link pliers is a non issue. I would say in order to not damage or stretch out the lip, set your links up with the lettering facing out, then once your lengths are set, turn the link ends with the lettering facing inward. Links are extremely vital on any machine. Let alone a FBL setup. May ad well take out all the variables you can!

I set up all of mine with the lettering facing out, seemed like that was what Compass intended and what I saw on most of the builds.

There is a reason that the hole in one side of a link is almost always bigger than the hole in the other side of the link. It's so you don't "stretch" the material of the link when you pop them onto the ball, which weakens the link more and more each time you pop them on and off.

Just measure the links with a caliper, the bigger hole goes toward the ball. This is the case with every heli out there with the exception of links that were designed to go on in both directions. Those are easily identifiable because the hole on each side of the link is the same size.

As far as i know all Compass ball links could be put on either way. But the ones which come on the 2.5 mm rods (the beefy black links) can only put on in one direction. If you have a good look at the beefy black links, you can see that one hole is bigger than the other.

But the grey Compass links can go on in any direction !

Grtz,
Dirk
