Default Cheapest possible tail servo?

Hi, I'm building a t-rex 250 with a 401 gyro and need to find a cheap and light tail servo to keep the CG good, hows the Futaba S 3154?

Logitech 2100 gyro with 3100 servo from Grand RC both for $109 USD. very small and light servo and gyro.. much smaller than the 401 about 1/4 the size actually

Actually the Logitech servo is a rebadged Innolab, I am using the Innolab and find it great. Just make sure you run at 5.5V as one burnt out already at the default ESC setting of 6V. The Innolab works very well with the 401 according to others on this forum. I think Helidirect are the US dealers of choice on Innolab.

I too want to know how good the s3154 futuba servo will work, I have one in my blade 400 with the gy401 but seems to twitch alot. I would like to get the JR DS290g and put on my blade and use the s3154 on my 250 if it is better then the stock tail servo.

Don't go too cheap. Read all the tail issue threads and then decide if it's worth investing in a good tail servo. Not saying the 3154 wont work but it may be less aggravation to put a 3500g or 9257 on it and be done with it.

Agree cause if you crash even one time cause of the cheep servo even in setup, your crash will cost what the differnce was between the cheep servo and the put it on and forget it servo... Then you don't have to deal with a crash...

it depends on what flying you're looking for. if you're just looking to scoot around do some flips and rolls occasionaly....no real 3d going on, then i'd say s3154 could do it...however it's kind of a slow servo in terms of tail servos. it is better performing than ds420 as far as I have seen. though, if somebody out there has a ds420 working fine doing mild 3d then that's another story. the stock servos seem to vary in quality.
since s3154 doesn't cost any different than other tail servos i'd go with others since they're faster. it's just that s3154 has more torque to overcome the massive centering force on that tail. you'll need weights on the grips if you want to use less torque (faster servo for same size).

Ok I decided what the hell and put my s3154 on my 250.......it's so much better I am glad I did it no more tail wag. Now I don't do hard 3d yet so can't tell you if will work in that regards but for simple hovering and just farting around it works great. Now I will invest in the s9257 to but in my blade. Also was able to up my gain from 60 to 64. Just my 2 cents.
