Default Xtreme Inner Shaft on Big Lama

I am trying to install a new Xtreme inner shaft for my Big Lama and I can't for the life of me affix the lower gear securely onto the inner shaft using the grub screw. I have tried to affix the grub screw onto the flat section of the inner shaft but it is still quite loose even after using a fair amount of force to tighten the screw (the screw still slides up and down the flat section). It is almost as if the grub screw is not long enough but I am definitely using the original screw.

I am scared to tighten it further for fear of stripping the screw. I have tried putting the original inner shaft back and, whilst there is less movement than with the Xtreme inner shaft, there is still some play.

Can anyone save the few remaining hairs on my head before I tear them out too!!! Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

given what a new gear assembly costs it wouldn't hurt to get a new one and try it. Maybe something happened to the screw -

Regards,
Fred

Thanks for the suggestion Fred. I ended up taking the Big Lama to my LHS and found out that I had been using the wrong tool (Torx instead of Hex head ). This meant that I was not able to get sufficient torque to get the grub screw in all the way.
