Default Best replacement mg servos?

Hi Everyone,

I have a used 450X arriving next week... What do you guys recommend for metal gear servos that will fit? I don't feel like replacing servos every time I crash!

There seems to be three servos that regularly get mentioned for the Cyclics. They are (in no particular order):
1) Spektrum H3000
2) HiTech HS-5065MG
3) MKS DS92

The first two are in the $30 range. The last one is $50 or so. Now enter the endless amounts of responses where someone found it cheaper.

All seem to work great, weigh different amounts, perform differently, and have different features. I don't think anyone would recommend against any of them, but you will probably get lots of opinions on them.

I run the Spektrum H3000 servos and have no complains. They have better performance specs then the stockers, were cheaper then the HiTecs, my LHS had them on the shelf, and only added about 14g to the weight of the heli. A no brainer for me personally.

As far as the tail goes I am still running the stock servo with a 5.1v voltage regulator so I can run my cyclics at 6v. More torque and speed that way. About the only tail servo I'd recommend that is within the operating ballpark of the stocker is the MKS DS92i. It's about $90 if memory serves me right.

Someone on here was experimenting with some $15 generic MG servos. Don't know where that thread went or if he got them fitted but that's also an option. I believe they were analog instead of Digital which is a discussion for a different thread though.

After I crashed pretty bad and stripped all my cyclic servo's I went with mks ds92's. They're $43 on amainhobbies. They fit fine, but are a little snug. You'll have to cut at the frame a little bit to fit the elevator. For some reason the servos have little nubs where the screw holes are so you gotta make room for those. I also replaced my tail servo with a spekrum 5030 but honestly, it's not really needed.

The Spektrum H3000 and Savox to the best of my knowledge are the same servo as the Align DS410. They both are "on paper" identical to the Savox, which as I understand makes both the Align & Spektrum. The H3000 & DS 410 are slower than the 76T that came on the heli, but the Align DS 420 is a good match. Got mine at my LHS for $28.00 ea (swash & tail).

No experience with the Hi Tech, but plenty of people seem to like it. IMHO if you're looking @ MKS............you might want to be moving to a better airframe.

Don't get me wrong, I own several blade heli's, & like them all but I just can't justify spending 3/4 of what i spent on the whole heli on servo upgrades.

Here's how I see it. I can replace the gears in all 3 cyclic servos almost 17 times before I match the cost of the MKS servos. Not worth it to me, but I can understand why some might.

You can always transfer or sell the mks servos. If your gonna change your servos you might as well get the best right? Thats the way i see it. If your gonna get the mks ds92 get the ds92a+ they are for flybarless. And the same price i believe.

After 17 gear set replacements I don't think you'll be enjoying the gear set change as much as you did the first time ;-)

I'm putting in 5065mg's but wish I went with the MKS. Oh well hopefully they hold up well enough.

The Align DS420s seem like a good value, $27.99 a piece and FAST.

The 420 is their tail servo. Might not be torquey enough for the swash, use the 410, same price.

DS410's work good. What servo horns do you guys use for aluminum ones on the Align/Savox servo's.

I already bought my 5065's. I got a quark coming as well. What would the suggested tail servo b? They didn't have the 5084 I was going for however someone stated it was a little heay but solid. I would still go with it, I like hitec on all my planes but helis are different sooo... Any other good tail servo to go with my quark and hitec cyclics? Or just grab a 5084 online?

Another vote for the Savox Sh-0257 MG's... already with stood a blade strike that resulted in a bent feathering shaft, after the numpty pilot mixed up the Ail and pitch connections.

so they are tough little servo's

I was of the mind to just buy replacement gear sets for the DS76.. I had replaced the gear sets several times with success.. But, once the servo failed while the gear sets were good. It became 'weak', I thought it was ok, but my elevator servo stuck while doing back flips... arg..

Anyway, so rather than buy a replacement DS76, I got 3 Spektrum H3000's.

They dropped right in with no frame modifications needed. You do need to modify the FBL setting to reverse them.

I flew them this weekend and they worked just fine, and I did not have to modify my FBL gain settings.
