+1. JR 8717 are awesome. I really like those.

Once I went to DL I changed to MKS DS660A+ @ 365 oz. in. They are almost twice the strength at much less money and ZERO slop. First servo I ever tried that has no "gear wiggle" at rest. Maybe the titanium gears?

I use those cheap but reliable servos in my 700:
Power HD1209 = Turnigy 1266HV Digital HV Titanium Gear Servo 57g 11kg 08sec
Power HD1212 = Turnigy 1267HV Digital HV Titanium Gear Servo 57g 14kg 10sec
Power HD1214 = Turnigy 1268HV Digital HV Titanium Gear Servo 57g 16kg 12sec

I want to stretch Assault to 800mm and I will put:
RJX FS-0521HV Metal Gear Digital Servo 21.3kg / 0.05sec / 68g for cyclics
RJX FS-0521 T HV for tail

I will use probably RJX FBL 810mm or 800mm MS Composit 3D Futura Night Main Blades

Are there many people out there that have used ds610's for cyclics on a 700? I know it's not a huge difference in size from the 600, I plan to buy a really nice set when I get it flying but I want to be comfortable using them just to get it air born?

Yes. They are fine - run them at 6v.

My advise to you when you run those RJX servos (which are great I run them in my 700pro DFC Hv ) is to ditch the metal servo arms and use plastic. Trust me if you crash you will need new gears sets if you don't. Good luck with your maiden.

Good point.

In fact I crashed 600 twice with Power HD servos. They have "titanium" gears. All servos and servo arms survived.

I think weak points are ball links. They break easily in crash.

I use classic FBL head. So DFC can be different story...

I do not plan to crash it. Hardware failures happen anyway...

The heli is a light and a very responsive 3D machine. ** My kit was one of the first, and had only radial bearings in the tail. Hobby King changed this with a thrust bearing and 2 radial bearings in the tail hub now. They also sent out the new parts to all who got the first run of kits.*** So any thing read about the thrust bearings in the tail is old news. The kit is a work of art. I have several other $1000 heli kits of different manufacture, all have good and less good points. I would match this kit up to any of them. For anyone wanting to put in a 560KV motor, you can use the TREX 700 slant tooth gear and the TREX 11 tooth pinion with the 6mm hole from the 550 PRO. The slant tooth main gear is 112 teeth and the strait tooth is 115. The pinions for the strait tooth are 12 and 13 tooth. You have just that much adjustment in the frame holes to make the correct mesh with the gears. (560KV)112/11=10.18 (500-530KV)115/12=9.58 (480KV)115/13=8.85 This will very with how you intend to fly! Looking at a couple different motors. I am looking at either a 530 or 560KV....what are the pros and cons between the two?

I was flying 560kV and prefer 480kV. Higher HV means higher RPM but less torque. With high kV you can experience more RPM drop down at high cyclic angles. Lower kV provides more consistent RPMs. I do not even use governor with 480kV motor. I usually fly relatively low RPMs.

OK well maybe I will stick with the 530kv and keep in the middle. I don't like crazy rpm's but middle is about what I like with some good torque.

Right now I am stripping everything down and thread locking it. Surprisingly about 98-99% of the screws have had loctite from the factory so far and I'm about 3/4 the way through. I have a question.....this bolt in the middle of the pic holding the dfc arm to the blade holder....does it need loctite? Everything rotates in it so I am not sure if it makes sense to get anything on it.

That bolt needs Locktite and don't get any in the bearings.

Dip the tip of a toothpick in Locktite and use it to put Locktite in the threaded hole...Not too much...Just barely get some on the threads.

Little update on the progress.

Still waiting on a FBL system and the test flights will begin! Made some changes to the gearing on the chaos 700V2 and went with the new improved Slant gears from Align.
Seeing as I am the first to build this new helicopter I have been working closely with Cliff and fixing very small issues I have found with the first ever produced Chaos 700V2.
Honestly it is a lot of work making documents explaining the changes I have recommended and designing them so the factory can actually understand them.
I will admit even though it is a lot of work, I am very proud to have been chosen to help iron out any issues with the kit!
The new chaos will definitely be very compatible with the new Align 700e DFC, making parts very easy to obtain.
Once all the changes have been made this is seriously going to be one BAD (A$$) helicopter.
Cheers Keith"

Will probably be about a month of so. I do not have a lot of free time during the holidays because of my job. Just need a motor and esc.

Default Looking good

Following along with interest. I've had to put this project aside for now, so hope someone will keep us updated on this build.

Mototr is in and ESC should be here tomorrow! Going to steal the servos and FBL unit from my 600 to get it in the air. Should have it flying this weekend!
