Hello Robbin,
Do you still have/fly your Mars? I just got one a couple of weeks ago and I am in the process of finishing the built. Is there anything about this bird setup I should know? |

Hi Arquitron, I just found out about this heli and it's like nothing I've ever seen before. So how's your build going so far? What electronics are you putting in?

Hello ValHeli,
This is indeed and awesome heli. I really like the design and build. I cannot compare it to any other build since this is my first one, but I have heard nothing but good things about this machine, specially in the stability department. I am waiting on the motor to arrive so I can give it a first spin. My electronics: Ciclic: Hitec HS-5085GMG Tail: Hitec HSG-5084MG Gyro: Spartan Quark (clear edition) Receiver: Walkera RX-2801 Pro Transmitter: Wakera WK-2801 Pro Here is a link to my heli: http://site.mars480.com/gallery/main...g2_itemId=1921 and here is a link to the Gazaur website where you will find a videodemo of the "Mars" and "Poseidon" helis flying, take a look at it... http://www.mars480.com/ |

yeah, i just went through the site but i'm in iraq and we have slow internet here so i can't view it. anyway, does the kit come with blades or do you have to buy those separately? can it do 3d? also do you hv to paint the canopy or does it come painted already?
I just might join you in building one |

@ValHeli (nice play on Valhalla amirite?),
All the kits come with a set of main and tail blades. www.mars480.com has both the CF and GF kits of both the Mars and Poseidon, and different package combos, which may have motors/ESC etc. Both birds can do 3D out of the box, although the Mars is explicitly designed for 3D. Ummm, I really don't remember if the canopy comes painted or not, I believe I had to cut and paint all of my canopies. Buy one, buy both, you won't be disappointed.

ValHeli,
The kit comes, I believe, with 340mm blades and it can do 3D. The canopy you have to trim and paint. There are two places for air flow you have to cut; two squares at the nose and two gills both sides of the canopy below the windshield. After trimming a few canopies, I recommend you do those first (gills and squares) before trimming the rest of the canopy. For the gills I found it is easier if you drill the vertices that form the polygon which make the gills and then cut with the xacto knife. Also make sure you trim enough around the canopy collar to allow for proper swash plate movement/operation. Let us know for which kit you decide to go. |

Hey guys, what's the difference between the Mars and Poseidon? They look the same to me.
I'm also little concerned with the landing gear bec. it's part of the frame. How does this thing hold up on hard landings? Is this recommended for beginners coz I'm just starting out. |

Well, the Mars' frame is modeled on a bird of prey, while the Poseidon's was modeled after an orca. The Mars was explicitly for 3D, and the Poseidon was for sporty flying.
You can see the difference in the design of the canopies and stabilisers, the Poseidon having larger stabilisers than the Mars, and perhaps a sleeker canopy for FFF. I have both, they are set up with the same gearing, but the Poseidon to me is much kinder than my Mars. Some prefer the Poseidon because it's easier on the eye. The landing gear isn't part of the lower frame. It is made of 4 separate pieces, using silicone tubing at the joints. This means that not only are the individual landing claws flexible, but as a whole they flex at the joints, and usually on a hard landing, the landing gear collapses and absorbs some of th energy. I'll attach the manuals so you can see for yourself how the build is. If you are now starting out, I really recommend that you buy a radio and a sim (phoenix is popular), and practice on those before you even think of flying your kit. Two crashes and you've covered the cost of the sim. TBH, I don't know if there is any CP heli out there for beginners, you can always go the coax->fp->cp route, but there will be a learning curve regardless of type and model.

I've flown some coax Walmart specials and that's what got me here in the first place.
I've had the realflight G5 for about 6 months and I can fly fine - in the sim last month I bought a Trex250 - big mistake I know. I can hover it fine but I'm having some trouble with FF due to the twitchyness of this thing. This is why I'm looking for something bigger bec. I keep hearing that the bigger the heli the easier it is to fly. What attracts me to the Mars/ Poseidon is their uniqueness and the stability that all you guys hear swear by. |

Okay. Flame suit on. Being a beginner, you might be better off getting a TRex 450. The reasons being: 1) parts are available everywhere and 2) many people have experience with this heli (you should be seeking local expert help if at all possible). The first reason can be mitigated by keeping lots of spares on hand to minimize down time after a crash. As far as the second goes, if you are willing to be patient and accept that you will make mistakes during the learning process, you will be rewarded with a great flying, unique helicopter. You made a smart move getting a sim. Practice helps progress your flying skills more than anything else.

Tactfully put.
Unfortunately to top that off I'm in an isolated location (Iraq), and i'm the only one flying here. What I was planning to do was to have my T250 as the beater bird. It's pretty durable. I've crashed it a couple of times where nothing was damaged or fixable in 5 min. I was looking for something that has a longer blade than a T450 but not quite a T500 and the M480 is the answer. But if you say it's that complex than I'll just go for the T500. they got parts galore |

Valheli,
Did you finally ordered a TREX 500? You will be missing a collector's piece in the future I think. If there is ever an RC heli museum, the Gazaur rotor machine will be there for sure with it's unique design. I guess practically is key in your case, enjoy your flight. Good luck! |
