She's got a speed envelope of 25-115mph. Chris clames it's probably the most stable aircraft one will ever fly. All the test pilots say it will just fly itself right out of your hand.

Painting in progress.
Almost done with the base coat. Pretty damn happy with the results, so far. I had my doubts. Purple and green are not my favorite colors. Never used them before so I thought it was time. Now I'm glad I did. Once I get the trim done she will really be something. I figure by the end of February she will be all done. No rush, weather is too damn cold to even step outside for a quick flight off the back porch with the Hexa.

Bssic color theory and looking at a color wheel confirms that green and purple together are a good choice

Hey Dave, how's Ireland? A tad cooler than Greece?
Yeah, pretty damn happy with the color choice. Once I shoot the clear she will really pop. First time using Plasti dip spray paint. It's abouit the only stuff that sticks to this foam. Kind of nice as if you screw up you can just take a paper towel and wipe it right off, no problem. Don't even need any chemicals. If you really mess up and let an area accidentally dry a simple cut the paint with a razor blade and then pry up a corner. It will pull right off leaving the foam clean under. Stinks to high heaven, but pretty easy to work with.

Well Tom, certainly wetter But Cyprus can get cold in the winter, there is a 6,400 ft high mountain that gets snow most years, there is even a small ski operation. And because it's a relatively small island, when the cold wind comes off the mountain at night, the temperature everywhere can be 2 or 3 degrees C. Last winter there was even snow on the beach on the south west coast
But at least the winter there only really lasts for 2 to 3 months. Unlike Ireland, where it seems to last for about 11 months

In case anybody is wondering, what can you do with Plasti Dip if you don't like what you've done?
So, after having it was pointed out that I shouldn't do a scale job when drunk, ( scales were backwards ), I decided to redo the wing. Truth is, I thought is was too much. Plus, it really would cut down on picking it out in the sky. Something my tired old eyes can use all the help they can get. Simple solution, just peal the crap off! Simple as that. I started with a piece of rough sand paper to tear a hole in the paint. After that it's just a matter of pealing it all off. Took about 15 minutes total. Gloss has been shot on the right wing. Really adds a nice shiny finish. The purple is amazing with gloss. By Wednesday, my day off, I'll finish with the gloss and be pretty much done with it. By the Weekend I will start installing the electronics!

Paint is pretty much all done. Next step installing everything.
Servo's are installed, reflex set and pushrods completed. Did a bench test of everything, all good to go.

Where's the CG Tom, roughly that is. 1/3 main, as is quite common. Doesn't that make that long main nose mounting bay quite sensitive to positioning of stuff and knocking it out of kilter?

Well, Andrew, I'm glad you asked as this is the subject to this post.
CG is critical. It's 1.5, +/- 1/4, inches forward to the forward fuselage wing spar. Me, I like being able to have an easy to feel contact point for my fingers when balancing so I installed a couple screws at the cg location. After that, remember that big foam plug that was in the center of the fuselage? You carve up a nice little pocket for your battery, size the plug so the cg can be adjusted by sliding the plug forward or backward in the bay. The scrap foam you then make spacers out of for easy battery changing. The plug has more than enough friction to hold it in place but the spacers ensure your cg won't change. As you can see the camera is a long way away from the vtx. There is a nice little trough running on both sides of the bottom of the bay. After making my cable I then goop'd it in the trough. I then cut a clearance groove in the battery block so it doesn't get accidentally glued in. In all a nice bit of attention to details on Ritewing's part! In the nose. the GoPro is held in place by the nose cover. It was molded by Ritewing just for the cause. There's some pretty beefy 1/4 20 inserts in the fuse and once the cover is installed the gopro is squeezed against the foam giving it a secure seat. The vtx camera fits in there nicely, also. It's mounted on it's metal u-mount which is goop'd to the pocket I cut in the foam for it. Electronic's are all installed and wiring completed. Nothing has been powered up since the bench test. Next up is programming. Got to do the Eagletree Vector and the TBS Crossfire uhf system. There's a pitot tube installed so the Vector can compute down wind turns without risking a tip stall. I also have a new version 2 gps/magnetometer coming. It will lock onto 20 satelites and do it super quick. A couple props finishes out the ordering and will complete the build!

Hi Tom, yes those are some nice attentions to detail. As for the CoG, it seems unsually far forward for the wing, but then again that's not a design shape that I've ever flown before, or even seen before, so why should I be surprised. No doubt they will have it sorted. I like your idea off an easy to touch outside refernce. Good job with that.
It's all coming together nicely now. Keep up the good work and thanks for those nice shots.

Programming complete!
Just got to set throws, going over every damn thing one more time, charge up batterys and then just wait for spring to finally make an appearance! After a solid month of cold weather we had 4 days of the nice stuff. Now it's back to dismal, again with no let up in sight. Video system checked out just fine. Running that new 800vtl camera, really like it!

Only got 2 little things to do, none that would prevent flying her.
I need a couple set screws. These are to secure the prop nut to the hub. Nice little safety feature Ritewing designed into even the prop hub! Got a nice balancing jig coming in to fine tune the cog before I do the final trim of the battery spacer plugs. Programming complete. Gone over everything a dozen times since, under the ruse of safety checks but truth is I'm just playing. All I need is a spot of good weather. It's got to be long enough to melt and dry off the snow from our last storm. By the looks of it, it's going to be awhile.

Hey that's cool, but a couple of things surprised me. There's obviously some effort gone into making it sound and look scale, and with a little further effort they could have made it appear to move scale. Sounds like I'm a right whinger, but they both leapt out at me, woah I said.
Servo control speed on the wheels, that's never going to happen in real life. Pity that couldn't be geared right down. If it takes a driver 5 seconds to wind in full lock, then that's what it should take, don't you think? Then, accelleration. The take off speed made me go, wth, lol. I guess you could exercise more care, or when it's hauling a load it would be different, but even so, if the controller were managed differently, it could always look scale whether it had a load or not. Have you considered some tweaks in those areas Ragge, or did it not worry you? Still looks good fun though. As for the weather. Got out to fly for the first time in weeks and weeks today, and I'd almost forgotten what to do for half a pack. Then it started to click. By pack 4 I was okay, but not great. Felt like the progress of the summer had been lost due to all this really crappy weather. I have a project in mind that is going to need some really good flying, all my current skills, and judging by my skills today I'm not going to be able to do it until the end of this summer, and I was hoping to be able to do it in spring. Very frustrating. Oh well, can't be helped.
