Yes you can do a mix to boost rpm if thats your main difference between ST-1 & 2

It is possible. You have to set thold for 0% to get the esc to arm and then just use idle up pitch and throttle curves for both positions, of course you won't have a normal mode and if you accidentally bump the thold, the heli could spool up at full power, depending on the setup of your esc and you have to work around the thold alarm on your radio by starting the radio with thold off then enable it and then continue to power on the heli.

I've seen some real knuckle heads try this, DONT DO IT. Because, people are dumb, really dumb, even the smart ones. With low throttle and thold, you have a double safety for spoolup. When you by pass this with the method I described above, you are now at the mercy of one single switch and bad things can happen.

I upgraded from DX7 to DX7s without realising it had only 2 flight modes instead of 3 (thanks Spektrum) but in reality it's not that big an issue if you have soft start on your ESC.

Program position for Idle 1 and the other for Idle Up 2, start with TX in Throttle Hold then select let the Slow Start work directly in flight mode 1 or 2.

It is possible, I'm using mine with the mix1 setup aux2>>thr and active for IU. Then I assigned my gear switch to AUX2 channel to use as an IU2 switch. FM switch puts it in IU1 then Gear switch puts it in IU2, this way I still have use of my gyro channel for the gyro gain. You set your throttle curve on IU to what ever curve you want, then add mix to raise or lower the throttle in either the up or down switch position. With using the mix in this way you will still have a normal mode and a TH mode as well as 2 Flight modes.

I just wanted to give Tasteles a "" for this post; I just programmed my DX7s with a Mix giving a throttle offset to essentially provide an additional IU setting as per his instructions; I'm looking forward to trying it inflight tomorrow.

As long as you have slow spool up.. just set the 2 positions to idle1 and idle2. Thats what many of us do who run governor mode and can't have a normal mode.

Agreed Sly, I was just trying avoid losing my Normal mode (for some reason); this is a slick way to gain an IU mode and retain Normal without buying a new tx.

I'll be experimenting with governor mode soon

I also was let down with the no 3 position switch. However with a little mixing and editing I now have a normal, and 3 idle up configuration to be used with the castle gov.

First we set our Idle up low throttle for the castle gov.

Then we want to set up our "Governor" Note that it is set to AUX2 and Gyro switch. I personally dont have anything in Aux2 on the RX.

Then we adjust mixing. Note that I only have this mixing enabled in idle up mode.

Now you have a 3 position idle up switch. You activate idle up with F-Mode and adjust headspeed with the 3 position gyro switch. These settings are set up for the set headspeed with the castle ESC. Lastly 3 photos show you how we just affected the throttle channel only when changing the gyro switch.

I have since refined this mix and made a video going over it. In the video is properly set for the casle gov at 30, 70 and 100%. It also keeps the normal flight mode open for you to use or as a back up 0% throttle. The photos will work just fine for phoenix sim but do not correctly align with the CC gov.

I think I figured it out on my own...
I don't run a ESC set in governor mode ...
So, I only use throttle curves ...
I like them much better !!!
I can't see wasting all that battery power when not needed ...!!
That's why I can get 7 minutes flights on my Trex 550 ...!!

Actually you'll save more battery power with a governor, but whatever!
