Default Amazing what you stumble across

Now most of you wouldn't know about this,... but trying to find large length boom stock has been a bit of a job.

There is one that is designed for an 800 size bird but it is a bit larger in diameter so in oorder to get it to work I needed to machine the tail casing open for it to fit.

And unless you wish to pay a premium price for a manufacturer to produce a custom tube, your choices are extremely limited.

Until today...I'm at work and after doing a bit of cutting, I needed to clean up the mess.

Coming back with a broom and dust pan..it struck me that this broom handle appears to be the same size as a ALIGN boom...

So I grab a pipe cutter and section a piece of the handle to get some measurements..

Amazingly..The OD is only 0.022 larger than the ALIGN boom tube , ID is close enough were the bearing rubber holder will still get a good grip.

So it turns out this "Quickie" broom handle has a new purpose..cheap, easily available boom stock.

Today was a good day

Default A new challege for the laboratory

It was asked if this could become a reality..

With the use of these....

CF930mm
Carbon Fiber 930mm Professional Heli Blade

Could a TREX1000 be created......

Default Battery stuff

Night, if you wouldn't mind I would like your help in checking my thinking regarding setting up this charging station using FMA's charger.

While this charger can output 1000 watts of power, my requirement of being able to charge four 3S 2000 lipos at the same time does not require anywhere near that amount of wattage.

I have found a 340 watt switching power supply of the same engineering standard as the ones in your photo. All I have to is figure out which lines to short on the output in order to have it turn on. That one is not exactly rocket science.

I am not the greatest with Ohm's Law but I figure that 12 volts at 2.2 amps would require at most about 26.4 watts to recharge. Multiplying that wattage time four gives me about a 105.6 watt load at max. This is well within the range of my power supply. I plan to recharge full balance at 1C normally and at the most, 2C. I should still have plenty of current to run the electronics of the power supply itself. Perhaps my calculations are totally off on this one.

Any input is welcome at this stage.

Hi:

Maybe I can help you out. If I read your post correctly, you have a 340W, 12V PSU?

340W / 12V = 28A the unit will output

Set the PL8 input current limit to 25A using the CCS Supply tab and check the Power Supply as the input source. Click update. Or if you don't run the CCS, you can set these parameters at the PL8. Please check the very first few pages of the user guide for more instructions.

After you set input current limit, the PL8 will automatically protect your PSU and will never draw more than 25A from it.

As for what you can get at the output:

25A x 12V = 300W at the input

300W x 0.85 (worst case efficiency) = 255W at the output

255W / (3 * 4.2) = 20A

You could charge your 3s 2000 mAh LiPos at up to 20A; not that you would want to. By setting the input current limit up the way I mentioned above, even if you set the output current to 30A, the PL8 would never exceed 20A on a 3s battery.

You can just download the PL8 Power Calculator spreadsheet and punch these numbers in to get the results I provided above. Or you can look at other PSU's and see what they will do, etc:

2nd link on the PL8 Resources tab:

http://www.revolectrix.com/pl8_links_tab.htm

Oh, and by the way, the original PL8 v1 is 1000W output when powered by 24V input. But the v2 upgrade enables the v1 unit to go up to 1344W output on 26.35V.

Hi Tim

Thanks for your help on this one. Looks like this is the direction I am going in after the 15th of November. Are you folks still okay shipping this item to Canada using the regular postal service? UPS is still living up to its reputation regarding its "brokerage and customs fees" to Canada. UPS continues to be the service one would use to send a parcel from the U.S. to someone you absolutely hate in Canada.

Went to fixed end points in the ESC, and strapped the 4 boom stays.

Though I will try SET RPM again tomorrow and see if I can still use it, if not fixed end points and a 58 - 65% throttle curve will work fine
