Default mQx newb - Always flying forward?

So got this bird about 3 days ago and been flying it into everything including the neighbour's car. Found out that wicker and 4 blades do not mix well, can always get a blade stuck if you fly too close.

Anyways, was out flying in a local field since the areas by my house are all fenced and afraid that I'm going to drop it in someone's back yard. It was very windy yesterday, I'm a horrible judge of wind speeds but it was quite a bit, I just wanted to fly higher without the backyard fears.

I found that sometimes the mQx couldn't get it's bearing straight, it would wobble till it crashed, weather or not I was trying to control it.
Also some blades would stop and wouldn't start again.
And one more - it seemed by the end that the mQx would always want to fly forward and I would have to pull back on the right control to even it out. Is that normal?

Thanks for the newb help,

Maybe an initialization problem. If you see symptoms like that again unplug the battery, reconnect while making sure it is flat and still when locking back in to the transmitter.

Otherwise, it could have been strictly the shifting winds making it act nutty.

Agreed. Check the gears for the motors that start and stop. I had a similar situation on initial spin up. I saw that all the others that spun well, the gears were all pushed up, up so much that you saw a bit of the CF shaft. So below the gear you saw about a mm of shaft. The one that I had the issue with, the gear was flush with the shaft. pushed that little bitch up and she spun every time. Push her up.

you mentioned that you have hit several things, it would also help to check your motor connections, check them on the board end, and also on the motor end. i have found that over time these will slightly loosen and cause very unstable flights until re seated. i am actually debating on removing the plugs all together and soldering wires to the board and having hard connections just to eliminate the issue all together

Ha, who hasn't hit something? ;-)

After resetting the unit on a flat surface that seemed to have helped and I've worked on hovering inside. Getting the precise hovering is an art, I'll get it eventually. Can the lessons learned on the mQx be translated to mCPx? I'm learning on the RTF remote, my buddy has a dx5e and phoenix that is is willing to lend me to learn on so I'll be playing with that lots.

Anyways, rambling. Found that one of the props has a cracked gear. Are there cheaper gears that work just as well out there? They are made of plastic...cheap, why is it $3 a gear +shipping? :-/

Love this hobby so far, even though I'm the only one flying in my neighbourhood.

Thanks for all the great info from the board.
