What's broke? ESC or Motor?

I have the 10A ESC from Hawk RC and the C05.

I have flown over 150 packs (heperion 250) through it and tonight there was no head speed at all. Slower then stock. The ESC was HOT. It's never hot. It smelled burned up. Everything is directly soldered.

Put in a new pack and it would hardly turn.

Would you think it's the ESC or Motor?

Does the motor spin freely by hand? Have you lubed the bearings recently?

Yes I lube it ever so lightly ever 50 or so flights with SiliLube. Motor does not spin free but not locked either. I would say its spun more when it was new.

Check the gear mesh as well.

My guess is that the esc is ok. I would hold off on flying it until the source of binding is found. Check to make sure that nothing is rubbing against the bell of the motor. I would clean and lube the motor bearing, main shaft bearings, and swash bearing. Check for a damaged main shaft and there should be a tiny bit of daylight between the main gear and motor gear. If there is still binding, it could mean that one of the bearings above is bad. As a side note I lube every 10 flights or so.

Binding is the word! I just changed the main shaft as the Jesus bolt hole was stretch. I think it got stretched from the cracked head.

I think the binding issue will be resolved with some new grips. Head. Solid Titanium shaft. And a set of bearings.

Current bearing are original. And went through two stock motors.

I installed the following with no love. It still displays the same symptoms. I did discover one more piece of the puzzle. Fresh off the charger battery down to 3.89 volts after a 45 second flight. ESC hot. Very hot.

Stock Grips
Stock Head
Feathering Shaft
Cleaned and lubed bearings
Stock Gear
Mesh is good. Can upload video upon request


Question;
Would / could a bad ESC burn up a motor? Or vice versa?
