Clear coating when finished
Any recommendations on a good type of clear coat? Should it come from an aerosal can or can you get stuff for my new HPC+?
Thanks for the help! Jon

You would almost never spray clear through an airbrush. Most top coat clears will be too thick and while it will probably physically spray through an airbrush you will not be able to get good coverage as you will have to slowly move your airbrush to get enough clear on the surface. If you are only fly electric and do not need a fuel-proof clear you can get away with an "intercoat" clear like HoK SG100 but it will not give you a high gloss and it does not have UV protection. It's a bastard way to do it, but its easy
For a good fuel-proof clear it needs to be two parts -- "2K." Some companies make 2K aerosol clears, you push a tab on the bottom of the can to release the second part and shake it to mix. You typically have 24 hours to use up the can. Most people will go with a spray gun setup instead as it is much cheaper in the long run and you have more control over the process. 2K clears (aerosol or spray gun) are very bad for your health, you MUST use a respirator and eye protection at the very least. If you do not want to go through the trouble, many paint shops will clear your work for a fee. -Farrell |
