Thank you so much. I said the same when I started and watched guys doing 3d. But if I can you can . Its all about practice practice and more practice. Lot of sim flight really works.

Here's another geriatric 3d flight. Again, I flew most of the flight at 1750rpm, which I find so relaxing. It isn't true low head speed, but it does reduce the speed of all the maneuvers which helps this old guy a lot.

Its whatever you want to call it. I don't think there is really a clear definition to 3d. When I started I doing stall turns was 3d. Then thought tic tocs were 3d. Well I have progressed into a lot of piro maneuvers.

I think it looks good. I have seen a ton of videos that were titled 3d and to me it looked more like sport flying. Flips, rolls, inverted hover. But doesn't really matter. As long as your having fun and have that sense of accomplishment.

Here's another flight of practicing moves from the simulator - tictocs and both forward and tail first loops with an auto at the end.

Tic tocs are looking good. Its just a timing thing. And what some will call driving the heli. I see a lot of guys rush through them. You really shouldn't use much collective (pitch) to do those. Only to stop the heli and start it. When I first learned them I worked on just half flips (or rolls) depending on the tic toc. I worked hard at stopping the heli in one spot with out drifting then getting the heli to move the other direction. What I found was I was soon doing extremely fast tic tocs and slow tic tocs mixed together. Starting looking real good.

OBTW, you forgot to aske how your piro flip looked at the 30 second mark. LOL. Don't rush things. Just remember every manuever when broken down is just combinations of basics put together. So if you can't do basics they won't look all that good.

Just as a quick example. Look at some of Bobby Watts videos. A lot of his stuff is basics strung together and low to the ground.

Yea, definitely timing and collective control. I either fight just rotating around the center of the heli on the elevator tictocs so the tail moves through an arc just like the nose, or I end up with small rainbows. They're coming, though slowly. There are lots of problems with my piro flips. Often I get anxious and force the heli to where I want it before it's time. Also I randomly put in a burst of collective to start the flip from either upright or inverted and that just doesn't look very good. I honestly had them better before I started working on the other rudder direction. Doing that messed most everything up. But, will just keep plugging until I get it.

I do more sim work in the middle of the summer when it's too hot to be outside and then again after time change when I can't do anything outside after work. I progress faster in those off-times when I'm sim-ing more. Fortunately we get good flying days in every month of the year down here and there's a field I can fly in at lunchtime so it's never cold turkey from real life.

Thanks for the tips.

Well, after many months of not flying the big heli any more I wonder how easy it will be to get back on the horse. I certainly could have spent more time in the interim but have found some "joy" in flying my 60" Decathlon and building foam planes to toss around for a bit. It's been an interesting journey and have learned a ton about plankers in the recent past.
I did take my Blade 450X and "rebuilt" it into a 450 3D. It keeps me stirring the sticks during this down time..
But, I digress, Parts for the 550e will be ordered this week and I really hope I'll be flying again in the next week or so.

When I saw you had posted here I was hoping to find that Santa had brought 550 parts early and you had a video already done. Hearing that's not far off is almost as good.

Merry Christmas Ed!

Same to ya George!
We have a 15 week old addition to the family and heli funds/time have taken a back seat for a bit. Just means not pushing the envelope as hard when I do get her back together. I'm hoping I order the right parts this time. Last time I ordered the wrong main gear hub a4nd had to wait another week or so after everything else was ready to go.

Congratulations Ed! I've been flying the 550 some, but it's cold enough that my Mobius keeps shutting down before I get enough for a video. Hopefully you'll get some video up soon.

Pic from yesterday. Have since set her up and did a small test spool up late last night. Hopefully in the air tonight. With video of course.

Great news! I'm stuck here in Minneapolis without a heli so a video would be great.

No go today. Maybe tomorrow after the "snow" subsides.

We missed the bulk of it. Getting ready to charge a pack for a quick spool up in the cul-de-sac.
