"Gassers", meaning a helicopter that runs on Gasoline/Oil mix (not "Glow Fuel" and not electric) generally have the longest flight times on a tank of fuel. There is a specific Gasser forum on Helifreak. Look there.

As for radio range... that is a very complex question. Are you a Licensed Amateur Radio Operator (HAM)? Do you intend to use a "hobby" RC transmitter? What downlink?

Do you intend to fly out of direct visual contact with the model, that is, via video downlink or similar? If so, you are no longer operating a model, you are operating a UAV (exactly as you said in your first post) and there are many FAA requirements. Also, AMA insurance will not cover you, you need commercial insurance.

And on and on.

Given your Join date to Helifreak, and given that we have no idea who you are and what you are attempting to do... you'll have to tell us a LOT more to get meaningful answers. At the moment, you've asked a question somewhat like "I intend to run a Marathon, what shoes should I wear?". The complex goal does not sync up with the basic question.

In December's issue of RC heli they show a new gasser that will get 30 minutes of flighttime on a single tank. I believe that will be my next heli I buy. Plus I have always wanted a gasser.

Most gassers will fly 20 - 30 minutes on a normal tank of fuel. Additional or larger tanks can be fitted for longer flight times.

You know--at the risk of posting something stupid, again----
So let me get this straight- you want to learn how to fly a 737, but not the taking off or landing part?
To answer your question-- about six minutes and 100 feet away is all the longer I can hold a nice pucker on a fresh 2600 Kong Power.
And say stranger--why do you ask?

We have setup helicopters with 2 hours or more flight time, but you'll REALLY have to convince me you NEED it..

I have been thinking about a gasser for ap. Thanks for chiming in Mr Bergen. I really like your website, and what you do. I would like to do large scale ap in the future. I am starting with a 480 mini titan and hang a small cam and see what I can do. People have said much more than a half hour is tough flying.

Mr Bergen or anyone. What is the norm flight time someone should shoot for doing ap. I don't mean to ask a general question. I guess it would be for a 90 size heli and nice ap rig. Is there an average for customers? What kind of heli do you build to fly two hours? Or is that top secret!

I am just really interested in flight time more than 3d. I just want to fly all around my families property from the air. I am a curious george as well

Thanks everyone for the input, the post was so old. If anyone knows a post of long flight helis, that would be awesome, I am interested in all size helis, motors, setups, gas, electric. I want to see everything! I will keep searching myself. Thanks again.

Can I see that heli with the extension cord please sir. Wow all the big guys are visiting!

Tom

I'll most agree with this. I like to fly a little further out though, which is why I dumped my 450 for an Atom 500. After 6 minutes, I've usually had enough and am ready for a short break.

For "normal" AP, the standard tank on a gasser giving 30 minutes of flight time is plenty..

if your next question is about how much weight a heli can carry. I think I will get more suspicious than I already am.

The original thread was started when he joined. He didn't get answers for his question so he left. (For some reason, the whole question was read in my head using a thick Bangalore accent.) The ancient thread has been resumed, presumably because someone else found it in a search and piled on.
