Default It's Back! [CHP550]

Pretty excited about this build. I've had an itch for a 500mm bladed heli and I still have the CHP 550 frame set laying around. Was going to pick up a Goblin 500 or HDCell 500 but the CHP frameset has been calling me from the corner of my bench.
So I made some orders for some parts today.

Main purpose of this build is narrow profile (CHP frame set is extremely narrow) and light weight. I want to keep the disc loading down as much as possible.

Gaui550 FBL head (it's tall and considering some modification to shorten it).
KBAR FBL unit (have had this on the shelf for a while now).
Will be using Futaba 9650 servos with 9660 metal gears <-- was using these on my original CHP 500 rig (after an Align DS510 stripped).

Hyperion 4020-910kv motor ($45 on ebay).
Yep 120A ESC or CC80A ESC.
Still need a BEC.
KBDD 515mm FBL blades ($37 2nd's on ebay).
Lynx 82mm tail blades.
Align 550/600 TT tail assembly.
Align 550/600 tail shaft (converting to belt using TT tail box).
Trex550 boom (or G550 boom).
550 belt
65c 6s 3600 packs (new).

Making a set of boom mounts to accept an Align 550/600 boom so I can use a TREX600(NSP) tail. Very small clearance between the frames and boom but it should fit in there. If that doesn't work I will make a shim for the Gaui550 boom to fit the trex 600 tail. Currently requires 1 layer of electrical tape for a nice fit so it won't take much.

Going to try something fun for landing skids (not as pictured below).
Going to try something fun for the canopy as well.

I should have realized that this place is a ghost town now.
Will continue this thread!

So this is what I'll be tackling today.

Align 550/600 booms are .850 OD.
Gaui Boom mount has just .050 clearance on each side between the frames.
After removing .025 on the diameter there will be .0125 less material at each side where the part is at its thinnest.

I'm think about making a 1 piece boom mount 1.5" long to keep everything solid.

CAD version of the boom mount.
Looks like the 550/600 booms will fit between frames.

Got the bearings and TT gear out of the tail box.
Plenty of room for the belt.

Drawing of the part.
Have to double check bolt hole location and then I should have this made in 20 minutes.

Looking like that will be a great flyer! I have the Head Hunter frame, but still run a flybar (600) Remember, X5 booms (TT) are the same as the 550 grey booms...

Thanks! I have a YEP and the CC80.
The YEP 120 might be a bit large for these frames.

Looks like a fun project, good luck with the build.
I remember when I bought my first Hurricane 550 back in 2008, this was a busy place. Dozens of guys posting here every day. I miss those days, but still have a half a dozen Hurricanes from a 200 to a 550, all still flybar'd....

Don't feel too bad Mike, if that tree grows tall enough, your Hurri can R.I.P. in Heaven some day.

These kbdd blades are beautiful.
I can't find a single blemish. Will be buying more.
