Is the Align External BEC "RCE-B6X" be blamed for the crash?
My brother crashed his 700E today due to a possible brown/black out. After a flip to hover, the bird pyroed out of control and blew up resulting in a total lost. He mentioned that during the pyros, the bird wouldn't respond to any cyclic inputs. He is using all Align electronics that came with the super combo except the 3G FBL unit, he is using the MicroBeastX instead. After some research, the Align external BEC "RCE-B6X" may be the caused of the crash due to that it doesn't provide enough amps for the 610 servos and resulting in a brown out. I am also using Align electronics on my 700E FBL and is concern. Has anyone had any problems with the Align BEC browning/blacking out and has replaced it with other BECs? What are your thoughts.....

I have the DX 8 with the telemetry module. I am using the RCE-B6X with a 2s lipo with the align ds610/650 combo and the beast X. The minimum voltage required for the Beastx and the Spektrum receiver is 3.5 volts. I have about 160 flights on this combination with no problems. The regulator puts out an accurate 5.8 volts. I have an alarm set on the telemetry at 5.2 volts. I have triggered the alarm on a few occasions with large pitch maneuvers. The telemetry has recorded a low value of 5.0. Static on the ground, I cannot get voltage to go less than 5.5 or so stirring both sticks continuously. With your brother's 700e, there may be something else wrong? Binding, bad servo, cold solder joint, something wrong with the Rx lipo, etc.

How did the battery you ran it from test out afterward?

the esc should have cut had it been a brown out as it wouldn't have received the signal to keep going. and if the esc cut it shouldn't have pyroed out as their would be no torque on the tail unless the servo got stuck in that position.
what does every thing do on the ground?

battery is fine I took the the align reg out of my Raptor and flew the trex 10 minutes later. I wonder how the orion 10 amp regs are??

Please check also your standard input connector, as mine had intermittence on it. Thanks god, I managed to found out before fly...

I Put some HV servos on my heli and the AC3x FBL system, on the bench with a multi meter and looking off the ac3x display it would drop to 5.5V, after flight it would record lowest of 4.9V.
After a few flights smacking around it did cut out (RX blinking) so there you go. This was with a jive internal BEC (its not an issue on 451 servos) remember i am using new thirsty HV servos. I ordered the WR 14S 10A/15A BEC instead and DCUP just in case |

I'm with F22. That does not sound like a Rx power outage. The ESC should have disarmed.
BTW - how is your failsafe set up?

Depending on your esc, so on a kontronik the default if signal is lost (eg pulled out or power off NOT FAILSAFE) is 3 seconds running before cutting

I am at a loss here, i have about 300 plus flights on my align bec in my align 600 esp and no issues at all, plus now about 15 flights on my 700 and still no issues. I also have the telemetry on both and my radio alarm goes off if it drops below 5.4 which i have never been able to do.

Great news that you have not had any problem yet. That said, if you look back at the build/help threads (including yours) one of the most common bits o'advice from people that have been flying Align for a long time is to dump the Align electronics. That is not a coincidence. Many people have had them crap out. Not everyone, of course, but enough. They may be getting better, but in the beginning they were true garbage. I went through 3 ESC/BECs via warranty for my 500 before I got one that worked, and I was lucky that the BEC part never gave out before the ESC did.
I would NEVER run my radio gear on an Align power supply. Never mind the money, these things are DANGEROUS! Just in my opinion of course. 8^)

I run the 6 volt bec in my Logo 500 w/ the Align step down. I also run an Align 2-1 in my Raptor 90 and another 2-1 in my Raptor 50. They are not the #1 regulators on the market, but they work fine IMO. The voltage drop under load is better than many other regs I have tried. I would prefer dual output connectors for the RX, but with low draw servos, it has not been a problem. I have had pro pilots beat the crap out of my Raptors multiple times and they didn't manage to cause a brown out. The only mod I do is hot glue the wire input/outputs on the BEC.
MPI makes a great regulator. Extremely reliable with very little voltage drop under load. Western Robotics makes a few good BECs if you don't want to run a seperate RX pack on your e-helis. I prefer HV setups with no regulator/BEC over all of the other options, but those setups can get a little pricey for quality servos.

ive now seen afew posts about this and its making me rethink the Bec on my 700 pro dfc . i got rid of the 3gx before the first flight, rail tails, glued on the all servo wires to rx and fbl, Kde OWB on order so thought i had all the basics covered . re thinking this now....

Now, I don't know if these guys sell to the US or down under, but this R2 thing here is in a class of its own. Massive reserves (40 amps!), heavy duty stuff in there, best test results from the Mikado people on handling reverse-power peaks. It doesn't even get warm from heavy HV pitch pumping ... http://www.hv2bec.com/images/hv2bec_all_manual_v2.2.pdf |
