Default Programming options for HW100a V3

I'm new to hobbywing esc's and this will be my first time programming one. I'm planning on using it with an Ikon, using the Ikon gov.

I was going to buy the USB adapter from HK to program with but it's out of stock, and as far as I know, nowhere else sells anything similar, or do they?

Is there a way I can avoid paying £25 for the 3 in 1 programming box? Can I make one of those USB adapters?

Could I just program it with stick inputs if I'm not planning on using the internal gov?

I've just been reading through this forum and see that this question has been asked 1000 times before! So now I understand I need either the cable or box to change things like motor timing, gov on/off etc... Problem is that cable is out of stock.

So my only question... Is there anywhere other than hobbyking where I could get one of these cables or does anyone know if I could I make one somehow?

Default Programming options for HW100a V3

I'm pretty sure the v3 can be programmed with completely with sticks. I have one, remember reading the instructions and they do say how to change everything . I did buy the box because I lose count easily with the beeps (make sure to get the box with the battery tester built in, the other will not work). The box allows full programming, and firmware upgrades. And doubles as a pack cell tester. The V4 I believe does need a box for timing. Message DarkSyd3D to be certain, he is very knowledgeable and helpful.

All the V3s can be stick programmed but its a huge PIA. You will need the program box if by chance the esc firmware is old in order to update it. There hasnt been a new firmware for the V3 in almost a year so depending where you bought it you may be ok.
Im not positive that ALL the parameters can be stick programmed however

I just programed a 50a V3 I received Saturday with sticks and it wasn't bad. I'm using an Ikon governor also and I did all the programing I needed with the sticks.

+1

I bought two HW 100A LV V3s when they first came out so I'm assuming I had the first firmware release. Stick-programming for VBar gov was easy enough. Later I did buy the USB adapter from HK which makes programming child's play.

I had used the programming box on earlier V1 120A HV Platinum ESCs but the HK USB adapter is much easier to use. I don't know about the V3s but the older Platinum ESCs were fussy about the programming box plug-in sequence IIRC.

The adapter is awesome, cheap and easy to do firmware upgrades with.
It's available on the Aus warehouse, not sure if they would ship overseas though.

Programming box coupled with the HW USB Link PC software allows you to update the firmware on both the ESC and the Programming box. It also allows custom timing settings via the USB Link PC software... I use this to set the timing of all my ESCs to 5 degrees on my 550U and X3s which are powered by Scorpion and HW ESCs... Advanced timing set to Custom 5 degrees on the pic below:

Do you think if I took any old usb serial cable and soldered on a female servo connector, I would be able to use the software?

How exactly do you set up the "Heli store Governor" option ?

I heard, that you set throttle to a flat 50% line and set pitch to 0 degrees. You start your heli then and wait 12 seconds after spool up.
Blades are mounted.

Is this correct ?
