Last weekend was a 3 day weekend for me, and flew my X5, 4 packs one day, 6, and 6. All flown in hot muggy weather with my new Hobbywing V3 ESC. Back to back flights and trouble free. I even did lots of autos from up high about 45 degrees nose in to me (I never land nose in so it's big for me). Worked on split S turnarounds (I'm not sure I'm using the right terms) but it's 3/4 loop, roll back upright, and do it again. Maintenance required: wipe the bug guts off the blades, and tighten boom supports.

Default Maiden X5 FES today!

I reckon I have the Gaui grin now!
I bought a 2nd hand X5 FES (with some spare parts) complete with stock ESC, servos, and motor, 15T pinion, BeastX, Edge 523's (the original Gaui main rotor blades are a spare set, never used), and 4 x 6S Lipos ( 2 x 4400 Gens Ace, and 2 x Reaktors 4000, in great shape with low IR readings) a couple of weeks back. The other guy replaced the stock landing gear with a set of Aligns.
It only had about 20 flights on it, and apparently was too much for him, (also having a new born baby doesn't help either eh?)
After going over it bolt by bolt, tidying up the wiring, re-calibrating the ESC to my DX7 (gen2), re-doing the BeastX, it was time to fly!
I was pretty nervous, 'cause this is a wee bit larger than my 450X.
Temp was +1C, overcast and very little wind. The snow had just melted. I fly pretty easy, 'cause that's all I can do. I am just a sport flier, nothing fancy, (I am still amazed that I can even get my 450X in the air, buzz around for 4 min and then land it in one piece!), but when I started the X5 up and got it up in the air about 10 ft, it was just awesome! It just sat there, dead still. I couldn't believe it!
My throttle settings are low, probably too low, but in IU1 (flat 40) it was more than enough speed for me. (I have the Gov set for high on the stock ESC). Maybe I should disable it? I have the Castle ESC on my 450X with the Gov enabled.
I even managed a few loops and flips and lots of easy FFF. Boy, you sure need lots of real-estate to fly this bad-boy! It was just a terrific day! I had the timer set for 4:50 and when I landed, the Lipos were just around 3.9 v, and after 4 Lipos, the ESC and motor were not even warm. Love it!!
But I have to say thanks to the guys here on HF, Anything Heli, Buddy-RC and 2ZO-RC, John Salt, and of course Hobby Alley.com. Soooo much info and experience out there. I feel quite humbled....
Anyhooo, I hope my 450X doesn't get too lonely....

Thanks again...

Congrats BB. I felt the same way coming to the X5 from the 450X. Mine is going on 2 years old now and I still love it. It's held up wonderfully over time and I expect to have it in my fleet for years to come. I know you'll enjoy yours just as much.

Made some custom magnetic canopy retainers. Clean look and very secure so no more dealing with annoying clips!

Another one joined the X5 Club.

My new addition to my fleet. It's an X5 FES on it's way to becoming a Formula. Got some extra clothes for it as well and quite a few spares. Next comes an XNOVA 4020-1000kv 2Y motor (still under consideration), tail case, Dual pitch slider and lever. Already installed the frame stiffener, battery fence, Swash and Head.

The motor is the one thing that I am not 100% sure about. I am only getting 2350RPM Governed using the HW 100A V3 and 16T pinion at 85%TC. I would like 2300, 2400 and 2500 and still maintain the power.

Default Winter Fun

Took the fleet up for a spin today. -3C, lite breeze. Nothing but grins!!
ArchmageAU gave me some timely info on HS for the X5. Definitely had 'er too low.
Really loud in the cool air, especially on a hard short turn at high speed. Awesome sound. Danka....

Flew it, tail servo quit mid-flight but landed right side up without damages.

Was a good day.

Fretman, nice fleet.
One question, where did you get the X3 canopy from?
Does those color help with visibility?
I'm color blind and that color scheme seem to help.

Thanks, I do find orange to be the most visible color and using some contrasting colors helps me with orientation. The x3 canopy is from microheli.

Cherish those blades. They are the best blades you can get for the x5.

i was at a funfly this summer, some guy saw the new zeal energy blades on my heli and he said how they would match his canopy on his x5. He traded me the gauis for the zeals. He was looking at me like I was a weirdo.
