I'll start experimenting, I have zero FAI experience so far. I got a second hand set of Radix FAI blades to try. Some people think that SG Rotortech's are the best FAI blades available.

Then I'll be using Edge tails and paddles. Not sure about electronics yet.

Hi all, i have just read through this thread with interest, but quite a noob with all these Eheli conversions.

I have a few questions...
*where would i buy the E motor mount with the top bearing holder for my stratus?
*what would i need to do to the frame to convert to an Estratus?

Cheers,
Vaughan

Hi there Vaughan! This isn't my thread but here's a couple pieces of info for you from my conversion.

The motor adapter plate can be found here for $35: http://www.rremodels.com/cgboleestratusconverisons.aspx

All that needs to be done to the frame is re-enforce the area where the throttle servo used to be, and add some sort of a flat surface to attach your velcro to. I used 1/8" G-10 ($12) from www.mcmastercarr.com and epoxied it to the original base plate. Still have to cut a piece for the throttle servo area I keep putting it off!

I used a Hyperion 4035-500 (same as scorpion) and can be found for around 100 bucks

For gearing, I used a 100 tooth main gear MA0865-100, and a 11 tooth pinion with a pinion adapter MA124-121 from MA. I run a castle CC120HV at 1750 in normal and 1900 in idle up. This works for me, but there are other gearing options. A great headspeed/pinion calc can be found here: http://www.readyheli.com/headspeed-calculator.html

Keep us posted on your conversion, you won't be disappointed! The stratus flies great, and is much smoother as an electric!

Thanks for the info Rpotter90, this will be an interesting build/conversion.

I will be photographing every step of the way and posting it up here.

Cheers,

Vaughan

Sorry to dig up an old thread, but I may be willing to part with this bird, if the right person wanted it. With 12FG. She's still a beauty.
