Default Now going back

Hi!

I know there has been some conflicting ideas about the DFC head, but nevertheless I though I'd give it a go, because I liked the concepts very much:
- more simple
- less parts
- stronger

It ended up for me being even more precise with very smaller play than before (actually I can't even see the play). Before with even good setup (tight arms and new bearings) I was till able to rotate the swash a few degrees, but not anymore.

I must say that I'm very happy with that setups. It flys great. Before it already flew great but I think it's somewhat less noisy now...? Anyhow I'm glad I was able to remove few some parts. And I can recommend the mod.

It was not a direct fit though and I had to spend some time removing all the plays from the Align parts. They are really not nearly as precise quality as GAUI, but if you spend some time, you get them removed.

I know some had concerns about being a rip of a compass design, but if they have a patent I don't mind paying them (through align) a price for the idea, and being able to have the concept on a different heli, in a category that compass wont make, in my GAUI 255. I see nothing wrong with that.

Wow, nice work.

I'd like to see a parts list.

Another good thing is that removing the extra arms, you can put the Jesus bolt all the way through the head and out the other side(for when it snaps off).

I used:
-Gaui links and threads that I cut to the right lenght (the align stuff is just too short, and very sloppy)x2
Oh and I did glue the links inside the metal dfc part to remove all play..align threads..
-the inner id of the align bearings are 2 when gauis gripper's screw are 1.4(old) or 1.6(new). you need to find a solution for that. I initially planned to make a bigger hole in the grips but though there might not be enough material left. So was left with new bearings or use a small tube. Now I have the tube and there is absolutely no play. Those screws I use are also longer (15mm) so there is some left on the other side in case they would break. 12mm is enought.

For the jesus, 10 mm is enough, but I had that even with the arms, using Picofly's mod. But you're right that now there is space for a small bolt if someone needs it very tight..

Where did you find those 15mm screws, are they M1.4?

This looks like a very nice mod, what hear dampers you using with it? Are you still using sleeve and where did you find? Are you going to try diff bearing size or not avail?

I would like to try this on mine, (i'll just rub the align logo off, LOL)

Yeah, It's been great I've been flying a lot an it's just amazing.

I didn't bother to change anything, so it's still like it was. There is still not much play.
During last maintenance I have noticed that the align bearings have develop a small play but it's minimal, these things are long so it has no impact yet, and they are still smooth so i'm not going to change them now. When I will change, I'll order new bearings at the correct dimentions for the screws. I've used boca, they were good, but I've been waiting for a common order to save on shipping.

For the tube I used the same as you have on the swash plate, the long tube in the back and it was perfect match.

Nice work mate! I order a set 250 dfc arms today, I'm for sure testing this when I get my X2

How are things working now, when have a few more flights on it?

It's been good really no issues with that.
I just removed all plays right from the start with the usual tricks, and it seems that it has not developped any yet.
So I'm extra happy with the mod.

Hope you like it too

I made DFC-mod to my Gaui EP200. It was simple and easy and the heli flies better than ever. X2 will be next.

Thanks for sharing.

I made the conversion two days ago, I rethreaded the blade grips to 2mm, they turned out great.
Flew it today and it flew great except a slight miss tracking on one of the blades.

Looks smoking!!

I did consider threadin the grips, but got worried there wouldn't be enough material left. I guess there is finally

Both helis converted .

Phasing of the swashplate is off for a few degrees ( EP 200 ~10 degrees, X2 ~ 5 degrees) but it was easy to adjust from V-bar settings.

Nice! How did you verify your phasing?

I just observed link geometry and adjusted V-bar accordingly. I am not sure if phasing is 100% perfect now but test flights proved that it is good enough for my 3D-skills.
