Trex 250 Pro DFC, Torque Tube Front Drive Gear (H25131) gets loose!!
Yes it does, it still breaks thou at some point.
I have used gorilla super glue and that works extremely well. And it's simply, just pull gear off spline and glue.

I have the front gear slip every 5-10 flights. How do you remove the gear from the shaft before it slips off??? I can't get it off before it slips so I can glue it on

Just pull harder. It'll come off.

I am new to the art of Heli building, this 250 is my first non BTF, so please give me a break. I have a grub screwed pinion gear which is also secured with R48 for good measure, this as a result of reading posts in various threads.
Why not use R48 for this? I have my finished build, that just needs flying and setting up, it is all ready to go and has had nothing more than minor indoor testing. Having read this thread from beginning to end I kind of wish I was still holding the money Can we put together a summary of the best options as perceived by the authors of this thread. Please reorder as you see fit, but I was, and I assume many are looking for a summary as to which solution seems to be the most open, attainable and functional for those looking to maintain the TT at present 1. XXT vs XXW
To me this seems like a scam. The XXT gears are no different from XXW gears. I just got the XXTs, and pulled the umbrella gears off. The shaft is exactly the same diameter, with just as many teeth as XXW, of exactly the same size as the teeth on XXW gears.
I superglued the gears back and left them set overnight. We'll see if that fixes anything. I suspect it won't...

Do you still have the 250 and if so would you still recommend this as the best option? The last updates I could see from you seemed to indicate that this was working well and I see no record of a failure. I would appreciate any feedback you can give. I have a fully built Trex 250 Pro DFC that I would like to fly but this thread is making me wait

I know it is a long time since you posted this but can you confirm that the following parts list was what you needed?

That was my list and that should do it. I'm so glad I made the belt switch and will never go back to the TT on a 250.

The XXT front gear is still the same crap. Just a light touch with tail in the grass, and it strips again...XXT is as worthless as the original one. Align must be sleeping in the classroom. I agree what other people say here, the tail gear better be the weakest link, as it is easy to fix. I'll rebuild to belt drive. Thanks for the parts list!

Trex 250 Pro DFC, Torque Tube Front Drive Gear (H25131) gets loose!!
Quote:
Go to local hardware store, pick up a small tube of gorilla glue ( super glue ) Take a brand new gear, pull off the front gear from the shaft, it comes off super easy. With a needle put glue inside the splines on he gear, then slide back on, seat all the way. Be careful not to have excess glue go into bearing on shaft. It wont strip any more unless you pile drive it. Problem solved!

Thanks. Sounds like something that may work. The thing is I ordered the belt parts after my first post, heh. I tried to glue a torn gear, but no success. Doing the same on a new one sounds interesting. So next time I order something, I'll order a new forward gear. Then I can have a torque tube tail rod as a spare one, as I have both a CF boom and aluminium boom, now using the CF.

I had my front tt gear strip yesterday which resulted in my third set of broken skids on my 250. I'll try this glue mod.

Just had my first crash with my 250. Guess what the cause was, that's right the gear came loose. Time to breakout the glue. At least minimal damage and I wasn't the cause of it.

I tried super glue on a brand new black gear and it stripped after a few flights, in the air, with no prior tail strikes or hard landings. I have another 250 with a TT that I bought through a member here and I fly it full 3D with no stripping. I'm so happy with that 250 that I don't dare open it up to see why it works so well. I'm starting to change to a belt drive on my 3rd 250, and I'll try one more time with the XXT gear on my #2 machine. Is one out of three good? hummm.....

A better ball link pliers :)
The plastic tweezers broke! So I have to go with metal pliers and found the perfect candidate for the job. It is called the wire looping pliers.
First I cut the slot on the curve side then filed off the curve into slimmer blade. Then I bend the stepped side into 90 degree. And it works great. |
