Scratch building 1/4 scale Bell 206B, 206L and 407 fuselages

Hi, great thread .. really impressive. !!

I have a question .. maybe i missed it in the text but ..

How exacatly do you fit the 2 parts (seemlessly) together of the main fuselage after they come out of the mould ?

at that stage you have 2 parts that have to be connected to form 1 fuselage.. and you have to make the edges of where they join very straight

so do you glue the 2 parts together with a a piece of fibre and epoxy ?

or is there a way to do that immediately when creating the 2 individual parts ?


the same question for the long but narrow tail part .. if you have 2 pieces coming out of the mold how do you glue those together ? afterwards or immediate ? it seems to tight to work with your hands inside that part

Sorry for the later reply. The halves of the mold are joined together then the center tape is applied, yes even to the tailboom. It's applied before the resin cures fully so it cures as one. The part is popped out after it has cured.

Hi George, I sent you a PM a while back regarding a 1/5 scale Bell 407. Do you plan to make one in this size in the future? I'd buy one of your 1/4 scale fuses, but it's just too big for me to store and transport. Let me know.

While I realise this post goes back some time, I've been looking for plans to undertake a scratch build project of my own (highly detailed display model) for some time.

Hi guys what type of foam is used by OP?

Looks like Extruded Polystyrene Foam (XPS) to me. Most commonly made by Dow Chemical.

Lowes, Home Depot, Menards will have it along with any building supply yard, except in California, because, well, you know, it's California.

EDIT: Ooops... I just saw that the you live in Ireland. Not sure about suppliers over there but the composition of the board remains.
