VR's are used to regulate voltage to the servos when not using HV servos as well as to run a Glow Driver. The Align unit has both in one unit as well as units from Perfect Regulators. One of my birds has the Align unit, and the others use the P.R. Duo with a remote stick glow driver style. All comes down to personal preference. I even have one of my N5c's setup with a Castle 10amp BEC to run the electronics off the 2S battery set at 6vdc for my servos.

If you haven't purchased servos yet, you might check into HV options. I like the simplicity of my N5C with HV servos, switchglo pro, Brain2 HD, align gov sensor and 2s batt. No regulator, no step down, no bec. Brain2 HD even includes a power switch that fails "on".

If you have standard 6v capable servos just run a A123 Life pack . Almost all modern servos are capable of handling the 6.6 volt life packs with no regulator.I really try and avoid any extras,so my electrics all run a good high end Western Robotics BEC and my gassers and glows have only had a battery. If it is HV servos a lipo or a Lifepack and for 6volt servos a (Life pack).
Now get building Mike
