Default JR 712BX signal/reception capability? satellite required?

I just bought a JR28X together with the 712BX receiver. I set it up on my Goblin 700 carbon . while range testing it i plugged in the batts with the canopy on and kept it in all 4 orientations, i noticed the following:

1. the moment i would cross 30meters walking away from the heli signal would deteriorate. If I turned back signal would restore.

2. especially in nose in orientation signal would break off after 20m

I've mounted the receiver inside the canopy just below the locks on the right side with 1 wire running along the same frame facing down and the second wire taped under the boom crossing along the tail servo

Before this i was flying a futaba 14sg and i vividly remember during range test mode signal would be stronger overall...

Is there a weakness in the signal for the 712BX?If yes, do i need to use a satellite?

Carbon fiber blocks TX signals, so you can't have the antenna under the canopy since yours is full carbon. Same applies to the boom since it is thick, solid carbon on the Goblin. It will block the signals from any angle where the boom or other CF parts are blocking line of sight between the antenna and the TX

In your described setup, nose in position would have a lot of CF blocking the placement of your antennas which matches your described issue.

So where should i mount the receiver ideally to cover all 360degrees signal wise?

Different brands power down differently. The Futaba range test mode is about 23 dB down and the JR DMSS is about 35 dB down from full power. But I get more than twice what you reported. Mount your two antennas differently. Outside of the canopy and away from all carbon.

They make satellites with very long antenna specifically for full carbon setups so they can clear the CF

They are not compatible with JR DMSS.

Ah, sorry I forgot we are dealing with JR here and not in the Spektrum sub forum.

Jr does have sats for the dmss that has longer wires for antennas also I believe. That and they just come out with another sat for them but I don't remember the number right off hand. I will have to look for it

I lost my tre600N DFC, today with signal lockout using the 712BX along with a full range Sat. There must be some sort of issue going on. Where you able to get yours sorted?
Cheers

I run 731 and 612 RX.
On the Spartan you can use a RA02 diversity RX.
No sat on the 612.
Make sure you properly orient the RX antennas.
I have been flying DMSS for over a year without a single issue!!

Which way is your radio antenna pointing while flying?

One more comment. The BEC or voltage regulator can drastically reduce your range. I had this problem with Futaba 6008HS and a Futaba PS-10 regulator. Went to A123 6.6 volt no reg. and the range check tripled. Mounting the RX/antennas next to the FBL unit or ESC might also cause this problem.
