Thanks,
Use the highest head speed you plan to fly when you do the tail setup in Rate mode (IU2?). I realize it cannot be perfect at all HS, but it's safer to make sure it works correctly under the most demanding conditions. Proper setup of the pitch precompensation will take care of the rest.

This depends on heli design, servos, mechanical setup, and flying style; there's no typical setting. In the end, it's all about blade pitch: I normally shoot for 9* cyclic range.

Set your radio swash type to 90° 1-servo (no CCPM mixing). Leave all channels on normal at first and look at how the swashplate reacts when you move the sticks. Then you'll need to reverse either individual servos on the gyro, or control axes on the Tx to make everything react correctly to inputs and gyro compensation. It's a purely empirical process, there's no prescribed method really.

The Mild 3D preset shiuld be plenty fast. Correction speed is usually dictated by the Gain and PID settings.

I have a feeling the zyx does better when mounted flat, but I don't have any direct experience to relate with the side mounting.

That's normal on any FBL system. It only happen on workbench, but on real life, it will be different.

Dr. M, Have you any suggestions or thoughts on the flip the tail grips mod suggested by finless Bob? He indicated better tail authority in rate mode. I was thinking about trying this mod but was wondering how it would react with the zyx setup? thanks

Len

It would work well, provided you've correctly set up the tail input and compensation direction. However, IMHO the KDE method is easier and seems to have more consistent results: https://www.helifreak.com/showthread.php?t=142911

On another note, I cannot believe Align hasn't come up with a fix, knowing about this problem on the 450 Pro for at least 4 years.

Have you seen these http://www.align-trex.co.uk/tail-pit...183.html?ref=1 they change the tail geometry to give you the 8 degrees at 90 degrees

Interesting. And no, I was not aware of those. As you can tell from my signature, my fleet is unAlign-ed .

If you're wondering, the CopterX Black Angel is not a clone. It's a CopterX design inspired largely by the Beam E4.

Tx Gear channel modifies the tail Total gain. Think of it as a scaling factor for the gains you set on the gyro.
