Default Observation from team pilots: 6HV, BeastX and KBDD dampers

This combo absolutely rocks out hard. However, when using the Lime green(hard) or Blue(medium/hard) KBDD dampers in the 6HV head, you may wish to install them on the "inside". What I mean by this, is that the dampers will need spacers. Using the spacers on the OUTSIDE, will place the dampers on the INSIDE, thus lowering the damping effect somewhat. What Eric Brandenburg and myself noticed on our 6HV's was with the BeastX 2.0 firmware, we would get ossicilation at stock gain levels on pot one. The gain had to be turned down enough to cause the unit to fly a bit softer than Eric liked.

Once we moved to the KBDD Blue dampers(installed in outside position ie spacers on inside) he was able to turn the gain up to near stock levels. I chose to try the blue dampers on the inside and I can exceed stock gain levels if I chose too.

I think the limes will work on the inside too very well. Comparing the compass head to some other heads on the market, we noticed that the Compass headblock tends to be a few millimeters wider and thus the lever effect on the dampers makes the damper "more effective" and possibly too effective in some instances.

Many people on the older Beast X firmware did not have any ossiclation issues, and I'm sure many others even with new firmware will not have any issues. BUT if you do, this is something to consider to fix the ossiclation.

thx

Thanks for the tip, I'll have my friend try the move, he had oscilations w/ green dampers on the outside as you say w/ stock MB 2.0 settings.

mmm, i'm using the orange dampers from KBDD but in the flybarred head with very good results, i'm now going FBL with the compass conversion and a V-bar so i hope these dampers wok with the V-bar...

anyway thanks for the heads up, i will try to put the dampers on he inside when i get oscilation !

I gave my kbdd-dampeners away since they only gave vibrations. I find the stock dampeners to work great. Double O-rings of course.

IMO the stock dampers are barely adequate for flying and wear way too fast. Just my 2 cents. The KBDD's last a LOT longer and add a level of precision and snap to the heli that I really like.

I'm still running the regular green KBDDs and they're doing great for sport flying. The last time I ran the VBar spectrum analyzer on the bench (with main blades off), my head vibrations were considerably lower than the previous time, which tells me the dampeners are probably broken in now.

Yes, Vbar will be fine with lime greens on outside. Not sure how the orange ones compare, but they should work okay. You will have to lower the gain somewhat, but not drastically.

Also,
I need to mention I've run some other FBL systems and no other except the Beast-X v2. That said! The Beast-X is awesome on this heli. I just take it as one of those things where certain combos behave differently. Just sharing our experiences

I'm very impressed with the VBar governor on my 6HV, so I'll gladly pay the extra money to go that route. I've noticed a tremendous increase in the liveliness of the heli at 1950 head speed and I'm drawing significantly less from my packs.

i just put my FBL head together from compass but i used the yellow KBDD dampers, it says 'hard' on the packaging + i mounted them on the outside.

i hope they are adequate for the job or else i have to tear apart my FB head to get the orange dampers out and put them in the FBL head...

Is KBDD doing them, or will this be a Compass part?

KBDD. Evidently they sense demand is high enough now to take the risk, as before they kept saying, no, probably not producing some. So, I, Cullen and others with Atoms will be testing prototypes as soon as they are made.

I'll be testing in a FBL configuration, on BeastX to be specific. I believe Caleb is still FB. We should start a new thread if further discussion is desired.

Its a good thing that they're tested FB also,
not every one's FBL.
Futher down the road a thread on dampners
could be interesting, I think
