So I finally was able to get out and maiden my 700E and test out the scorpion 130HV. However, 3 minutes into my flight the heli just starts to piro like crazy & will not respond to ANY tail inputs. So I do the only thing I can do at this point, hit TH with heli about 75ft in the air. HOLY SH!T this heli autos like you wouldn't believe!!! I was able to safely auto the heli down without a scratch. This thing floats like a piece of paper in the wind! Ok so it wasn't an "actual" near death experience, but if I would have destroyed this heli I would have died!

. It seems that the tail rotor grip came completely off the tail drive shaft while flying. Never seen that one before!

Was this the v1 or v2 tail (black or silver grips)? Did the spindle bolt fail? Pics???

It's actually a quik uk tail. The set screw just backed out. Stayed on the heli just came off the shaft.

Use green loctite on the tail shaft, then slide on the tail hub, and green loctite the set screw into the hub.

agreed green loctight on the shaft to hub assembly but still only blue on the set screw, so that way you can remove it some day with heat.

The MA green Superlock does not require heat, just a good hex driver.

It's definitely stronger then the loctite 243 I normally use, but it's no where near as bad as loctite 262 or 266 was.

I've got 120+ flights and counting on my 700, no tail hub ejections yet. Thanks to Smacktalk RC for the tip!

Yeah, as you have experienced, the tail coming free from the hub is a pretty bad thing.

All in all I know many think about not locking that part in with retaining (green locktite) compound as you think, well I might have to get it off someday.

But one, you really can service most of the tail as the way they make the tail assembly to come apart these day, and two, outside of a crash, you really don't take it apart all that much, and three just as others have said, even with that stuff, you can still get it apart it you have too.

So my thought always is to do all that you can to secure that part to that shaft in every best way possible.

I never had that experience until it happened. Loctiting the grips to the shaft NEVER crossed my mind. Have to give it serious consideration now!

Yeah I never had it come free from my 450 and I don't green loctite that one, but I have seen others with 450's who just don't really even locktite even the grub screw and/or pay the whole thing much mind at all and seen them loose that connection many times in a row and still never get it to secure it better.

Anyway, the 700 though is a whole nother animal so you have a lot more forces.

Actually come to think of it, I think I might have just put some of the blue locktite on mine but I also used the QuickUK tail on mine so that has the two grub screws, but I also used a good amount of that too on those screws as well.

Also a nice cleaning of the parts that will be meeting, including the grub screws and their holes with acetone or some other really good oil remover product, is a thing I do for all locktite connections I make. And as well do the same and do a little chasing of the threads of either for old connections if I ever remove them.

Seems like a lot of work I know but in the four years I have been putting these things together, I never once had anything ever come apart.

Funny to see how fast some one was to jump on if it was an Align part.

Funny how its ok for the grub screw to come loose in the UK part and everyone is staying to lock tite it to the shaft. First and foremost i am glad your heli made it out in piece. blue lock tite on the grub screw and set it with firm pressure then after the first flight check it and you should be fine

I guess that someone your referring to would be me. And yes, after the failures of the align v1 tail and my recent purchase of an align v2 tail, I was very curious to know if there was a problem with it since I haven't tried it yet. Hope that's ok with you.

Just a tip on the quick UK tail.
When I ran it some play developed between the shaft and hub.
I ended up putting retaining compound on it to take out the play.
