Default Reliable BEC

What BEC are you guys running? I am currently using the Jive bec, my 2nd Jive 120 has become problematic and Im worried about having issues with the other.

I have considered a western robotics bec but after some wire failures that have been reported I do not trust it.

Thanks for the help in advance.

I'm using the jive bec on my heli's , with the second slave power cable.

Logo 6003d just about at 200 flights now and no problems. (jive 80hv v9 i recall)

My 600se has a v7 jive 120. Same setup with the slave cable.

Some notes for the jive bec's i've read about.

- don't run 6 volts into servo's like the align 610s and 8717 jr's as the high current draw can put back emf into the bec and shut it down on you. Running the default 5.6volts isn't an issue.

- use the slave power cable for any amp hungry servo setup.

- Do the throttle calibaration procedure

- mode 1 reset is done with 100% epas and linear throttle curve (then do calibration and reset th curve)

Other than that there expensive and solid performers with a great bec built in.

I've read of the version 7's going out of sync or something like that. Doing the mode 1 reset then mode 4 for heli fixes that up.
I had my v7 give me random shut downs and the reset fixed me up. It was like it forgot how to run the motor.

If i were to pick a bec it would be the WR units , they have the best reviews

I have 10 of the WR Super Hercules BEC's in operation now. Some of them have quite a bit of time on them. No problems, so far.

Running them on two 700's, five 600's, a 550, a 500, and one on a large P-40. All are running from 6S, even though most of the aircraft are running 12S.

Hi Marty, this is what my current Jive is doing at 5.8 and 5.6 volts, Version 9 Jive 120, did mode 1 reset, calibrated end points ect. It has been running find at 5.8 volts on my Trex 700E with Align 610s, 650 for 8 months without issue, only became an issue when I put it in my Logo 600 with 8717s on cyclic and BLS 251 on the tail.

Thanks for the help

Must be just a BEC problem with that Jive. Had to send a few back to KONTRONIK myself, for other reasons however. Good service, but shipping was a pretty penny from Canada.

WR units are very robust, and I've never heard on anyone having issues with them either. After having my first (and only) Castle BEC burn up (only powering my night gear), I quickly went back to WR. The Super BEC might be a little pricey, but well worth it.

So far I've yet to see a single issue with the Perfect Regulators HV BEC. We put this thing through hell testing it and its really paying off!

Using the built in BEC on my Kontronik ESC without issue on my 600 3D.

Using a Western Robotics Super BEC on my Xxtreme also without issue.

I'm using the western robotics bec. The big one... I think it is 10 or 15 amps.

Why not try reducing your BEC voltage with the 8717s? I doubt you'll notice a performance difference at say 5.2v

I love my WR High Current (10s/5A) BECs. I just wire them into the first 6s pack on 12s setups. But, I'm also using very efficient servos.

I haven't had ANY good luck with Kontronik service and the Jives can not be serviced. They can only be replaced. So, worst case, you pay a bundle of money to mail it to Germany and they tell you that you can buy a new one from them at a price higher than what RH sells them for. I have had this happen to me with two Kontronik escs (not Jives).

Problem has been pinned down to the wires moving too much after 200 flights on the hurcules bec, may consider the western robotics bec with the wires secured well for Logo 600 #2 :-)

Blink 182,

I always make sure there is adequate strain relief on the wires, and that they are tied down appropriately (i.e. the cannot flap and there is a small service loop so that the wires are not strained.

All of mine are, by the way, set for 6 volts. Most are supporting JR 8717's and 8917's, two machines are equipped with 8317's, one with Align servos (610's, I think). Some have well over 100 flights on them. The one on the Logo 600 3D has 50 or 60 flights on it, right now (guesstimate).

The BEC's are mounted out on the frames where the air can flow over them (per the manufacturer's recommendation).

Very good service from them, so far.

Not possible, you need the link for that.
