why no gaui 425 spot here?

why is there not a Gaui 425 spot here? trying to find a 500 ish size heli. and someone pointed out the 550 gaui thats way to big so now looking at the 425 ones to find data on them/

I ask this before.
The 425 is the 550 with a short tail and smaller blades, and smaller motor and Esc. Just ask your questions on the 550 as all the 425 guys are there.
Same as Raptor the 30 and 50 are the same as the 60 and 90 so they are grouped together. Maybe they could rename it to 425/550 Hurricane.

As NHG said the 550 and the 425 are the same except for boom, blades, belt, rudder servo link, tail blades and flybar paddles. The 550 section is pretty well established and a number of us have run our helis as 425s at different times.

Before deciding to sell mine, i had always kept it as an option to convert it back down to 425 to keep the power system a bit less expensive. The switch is so easy to do, you could almost alternate depending on your mood: keep the oposite boom with a full tail and belt on hand, swap it and the linkage, swap your main blades and maybe paddles and fly it!

Oh alright thanks guys I know Nothing about these helis. so what kinda power set up does the 550 need compared to what does the 425 need? how many cells you guys run on both.

My 550s use the Gaui 50a ESC running 6S batteries (my favourites are the 20C and 30C 2650 6S Turnigy packs from HK), one has a Z20A 980Kv motor the other the standard Gaui 850kV. I ran the Z20A version as a 425 for a while, but prefer 500 and 550 size blades.

I am using the stock Gaui 850kv motor in my 550 with Gaui 50A esc., and 2X3s 3300mah batteries, running 550mm blades.
On my 425, I am using Z20-1470kv motor, Gaui 50A esc and 6s 2500mah batteries.

I am also currently putting another one together that I am going to run 500mm blades on. I have an Align 75A esc for it and going to run an 1100kv motor on it.

The 425 is a great way to go right now. 500 class (by other's standards) and the kit is just $79. Parts are inexpensive and there are 3 promo upgrades for it should you decide to upgrade the machine. The available upgrades are 1) full CNC head 2) torque tube conversion and 3) 2 piece frame upgrade. Each are just $99.

The plastic frame is the same for 550 and 425, the carbon frames are different... the 550 CF is a stacked frame, the 425 is just two side frames.... I started to describe more detail but see the attached pic.

All of the 'mechanicals' are the same and cross fit - although my 425 CF FBL is also a torque tube and I've not seen a 550 TT kit yet (probably exists... but the belt in my 550 has done 300 - 400 flights and no issues).

Biggest diference for the CF frames is that the 550 CF ffame has a lot more space for bateries - you can put one up on the battery 'ramp' and slide one into the gap between the inner frames. I do this for a 10S setup - and I know there are guys on here who have done 8S and 12S using the same layout.

Bottom line is that the CF frames are pricey (although no more so than Align) but very nice. The Gaui CNC stuff is very good in my experience.

Has anyone actually tried to buy one of these beasties? Rotorworld ran a spread on it in July's issue, and it's £59 for the kit. You can't get a 425 anywhere.
Apparently the first batch was sold out. I'll bet the second one is too.

um You didn't tell me in the picture the left one is what and the right one is the other? I am guessing the right is stock.

The left one is the 550 carbon upgrade frame and the right one is the 425 carbon upgrade frame.

Hobby Lobby, RC Dumbthumbs, and Complete Heli carry the $79 kit. I ordered from complete heli when they were "in stock". A month later they refunded my money. Hobby lobby is usually sold out. Got one from RC dumbthumbs and it showed up a couple days later.

err yeah sorry about not explaining which was which. Not a great photo but you get the picture (so to speak).

Another difference between the two CF frames is that the 550 has a separate 'sub frame' on the front of the inner plates which acts as the battery carrier. It seems to be slightly weaker CF than the main frame plates, as I discovered yesterday when I stuffed my 550 for the first time in over 18 months. So the battery carrier snapped off but the main frame parts are fine. Easy to fix (and I have a spare here anyway).
