Default New to Synergy

Hi all

I have been looking into getting a new heli, and the N5c ticks all my boxes. This will be my first fbl heli, and cannot wait to purchase one.

I have two questions i hope you guys can clear.

I have a new os50 hyper with a cy muscle pipe. Will this combo give me plenty of power? As i know this heli is bigger than some other 50s in the market.

2nd question is what fbl controller is everyone using?

Yes i understand there has been many threads, about one of the questions. But any help would be grateful.

Also any new tips regarding the heli please fire way.

Cheers,.

The 50 and the Curtiss pipe will be enough power to learn on and do lighter 3d while practicing collective management.

If you really wanted power in the 50 size market, you'd be looking at either a 55H (or regulated HZR) or YS60. My 55HZR ran very well on a funtech B320. I think the YS pipe might just be B321 or something, much like how the Funtech 1.05 and 1.20SRX pipes are different by one number.

That said, if you already have that engine and pipe and either A) don't have an immediate buyer or B) don't have the cash on hand for a 55/60 and pipe, then go ahead and run it. It's an easy engine to tune as far as heli engines go and cheap to fix in case you blow it up which brings me to: tuning.

I would recommend watching the Tim Jones videos on nitro as he covers the basics as well as giving audible examples of what rich and lean are on a heli . Your ear will be the single best weapon in knowing how your engine is doing, but only if you know what to listen for. If you've done nitro cars before, you'll be right at home. You'll find that helis are a cakewalk compared to cars.

As for FBL units, I've personal experience with both the CGY750 and the iKon with nitro. Both work very well in either case with the vibes and governor performance.

If you're inclined to go with Vbar or Spartan, stay away from the Mini V or cheaper vortex. They're not really designed with nitro in mind and have more vibration intolerant IMU sensors. Green light for electric though.

Hi thanks for your imput. Hi have a new os50in my current heli. I was more thinking whats the power to weight ratio. Yes i agree a ys60 is the way forward.

Thanks, both them systems i have been looking at. But does the futaba system have the convertor released yet so you can use it with specktrum?

Anymore advice is welcome.

The CGY requires a slight tweak if you're going to use the spekky backplate sensor:
https://www.helifreak.com/showthread...ate+sensor+mod

Needs an inline 1k Ohm resistor to drop the voltage.

iKon is a direct plug in with the spektrum JST connector backplate sensor (there are two versions! One with JST and one Futaba J conn.). Same deal with the Align mag sensor.

I think he's asking about using it with a Spektrum radio, maybe? If that's the case, yes, a converter is needed to run a CGY-750 with a non-SBUS receiver.

If that's the case, I'd just grab an iKon or Vortex + some sats

The CGY is a very slick piece if you've got an 8FG or 14MZ. It isn't as much fun when you have non-futaba gear. SBUS converter for the radio and converters for non-futaba gov sensors. The loss of radio to FBL tuning is a bummer as well. End up with a lot of junk hanging off the helicopter.

Spektrum/JR Sats or Futaba SBUS receivers are the way to go IMO.

I have a Skookum 720BE on my N7. I like it a whole bunch. One thing the BE is NOT doing is the self level function because of hi vibes from my motor. If i had it to do over i would put the SK 540 on the machine for less cost. Two other nitro flyers at my field have the V-Bar on their machines and they highly endorse it. They are running the full size V-Bar.

I have ran the IKON on my n5c with os55 and it worked great used the align gov sensor and a bluetooth module for tuning. I currently have the spartan vortex vx1e on it with spartans gov sensor and fyi the "cheaper" vortex has the same gyro/accel chip in it that the ikon and beastX has.
