Well all I can say is.....

Thank you Kelly!!,

The new mount fits like a glove and the laminated frames took care of the issue of turning your 600 design into a 700AP..

On another note I was able to find time today and cleaned up my wiring and snapped a few pictures.

Hi guys,

I drew up a a composite upper frame section but I am not sure it will be ridged enough. I will try and get this set together if I can ever shake this flu!

If it works out it would be another option and greatly simplify the machining. It would share all the same parts as the aluminum build except for the upper frame half's.

Sorry for the lack of updates but My new mill arrived

The CNC conversion has already started and should be done in a couple months. This machine has a large work envelope at 12" x 30" and is 1100 pounds.

I can't wait to get this machine up and running!

just finished reading this entire thread and most of the mill setup thread... AWESOME!!!
I love this kind of stuff!!!! just curious... what would it cost to put together a CNC milling system from scratch? I have several PC's for control, but thats about it.

by the way, for any one interested in Powdercoating on a small scale (your oven is the limiting factor for size), check out Eastmans Hotcoat system
http://www.eastwood.com/hotcoat-powd...FYJdtgodQWJZKA

I have been using this for years with great success... every black or yellow part on my jeep that would fit in my household size oven (dontated from my aunts kitchen upgrade!) has been powder coated with the above... the only issue you will have to consider, especially on the helis, is the tolerances... powdercoating DOES add material, unlike anodizing which chemically colors the material (and for aluminum also "hardens" the material... for some things a good result, but in small thin material will add a bit of "brittleness" to it... possibly not a good thing for heli frames!)

Awesome work Kregan... by the way, what CAD software have you settled on?

Kregan (and other cnc'ers),

what is your take on the CNC Masters "CNC Jr. table top mill"?
http://www.cncmasters.com/index.php?...table-top-mill
it only has a 19" x 7" x 5" x,y,z axis.

I am very interested in getting a CNC mill, just don't currently know ANYTHING about them, what to look for, etc.
Is there something better out there for the same price range? do I need bigger? the 7" Y axis seems limiting...

Work just let me buy a used bed mill for maintenance and the engineers to play with. My boss comes down every few days asking the maintenance guys if I have made any heli parts on it yet! $5000 for a cabinet and tooling on order.
30" x axis, 20 " y axis, 6000#'s!

Now I don't have to convert my Bridgeport to a CNC (on right)

Sorry again guys.... been putting all my spare time into this new machine... it is getting close!

Sean... Yes I will be doing a nitro and 700 in the feature.

Badfrog... International Hobbies sells this turn key mill for around $8500. Tormach also sells a nice turn key mill but is a little smaller in X and Y travel.

Fastflyer... Awesome!!!! That would blow the doors off what I am building!

Picture attachment button is gone? hmmm
