I would lean more towards the mounting tape/strap combo you're running that's causing the rolling and not the power setup. I've seen more than a couple mounting setups cause hard aileron rolling under climb outs and pitch pumps.

Me too I suspect vibrations more than power supply problems, but it is better to prevent these other possible iusses.

Here are some pics of my setup:
Note: the strap on the microbeast is not tight but is held in place with a little piece of velcro stuck to the top of the microbeast. I used the white mounting pad with the hole removed. The bundle of wires coming from the microbeast is not strapped down so it can move a little. Another note: Someone suggested to me today that I try turning the cyclic gain up before any rewiring. All pots are at factory settings. In case I didn't link the pics right, they are in my photo album here. edit: starting a new thread with pics uploaded correctly. was getting off topic Last edited by RCFanatic; 03-03-2011 at 10:06 AM.. I run an A123 pack @ 6.5 V on BLS 253's. Works nice, but havent tuned the microbeast yet. |

Heres how I wired mine up, I made a power bus from an old rx and other parts I had laying around. I already have the BEC Pro installed, but wasn't using one of the leads. I also had an old cheapie 6ch 72Mhz rx that gave up the ghost a long time ago and had been eying the pin outs on that thing saying to myself, "I bet I could make a power bus out of that", so I figured may as well try it, the thing didn't work anyway, so I may as well salvage something out of it. What I ended up with is a nice light power bus for the +- Leads from my servos to get power directly from the BEC Pro. I snipped the pin outs from the dead rx, and made sure to remove any unnecessary board or components. I also snipped the signal pin outs, leaving only the + and - pins. I then soldered some large rails across the existing solder joints to make them super sturdy and able to hold much more current. Id say this little guy could hold as much current as the BEC Pro could handle, maybe more. Then I covered all but the pins themselves with Liquid Tape (that stuff is great) so there is no chance of a short. For the servos I went into my parts bin and found some male/male extensions I wasn't using for anything and took the ends from them to use for the servos. Now all my servos have 2 plugs on them, one for signal and one for power. Now only signal runs to the BeastX and the power leads are hooked direct to the BEC Pro via the new power bus. The bus is very small and sits nicely in the frame tucked away securely. See the pics below:
Prepping the bus Prepping the servo leads, and making the connections Tucking it in and cleaning up the wiring

Well this is the 2nd time I have read through this whole thread still trying to decide what to do. I have an 6HV with JR8917's cyclic DS650 on the tail. I am running AR7600 RX with it as of now getting the only power input off 2S lipo. Tail is at 6v through Gryphon regulator.
30-40 flights on it now just testing upright circuits hard collective climbs and descents. So far no issues whatsoever with it setup this way. A friend recomended adding another power feed to the Beast unit but that will still give it full 2S power. It seems the general concensus is to seperate the power leads off the cyclic and power them seperately. Would you not also need to run the grounds seperate as well? Gryphon has 2 ports so I could run a dual feed setup to both rx and beast that way at 6v but I am starting to envision a rats nest of wiring. Are there any cases anyone knows of of any failure running straight 2S or does it remain a cya rumor?

its not about volts in the beastX as much as it is about Amps, that is why I offloaded power to the servos, for current purposes, not voltage. the BeastX can tak a 2s lipo to the bus no problem, but it may bottleneck on high amp draw to the servos.

maybe this thread should have been called proper high current setup

Nice work, nexgen!!!
You have perfectly understood the question and found a good/cheap solution!! A friend of mine had another good idea!!! Ciao, Egidio

Yes of course it MAY bottleneck but has it? Any documented cases of failure saying you better do this or that? Why would the thing be rated at 8 + volts if it could not handle it? Typically when something is rated at a certain value the manufacturer had it fail like 40-50% above that value.... Thence they produce conservative values to go by. I am finding it somewhat ridiculous to take what I think are manufacturer conservative values and make them even more conservative....

No 8v is fine at the BeastX. again, I repeat, its not about Volts, its about Amps. the copper traces in the power bus inside the BeastX may not be able to handle the current (Amps) of all the servos. if they stall out, there will be a large inrush of curent (Amps) on that bus and that is where the bottle neck can occur (think big bucket, little straw). the thing is after the bottle neck, the appropriate amount of Volts/Amps wouldn't be being sent to the connected devices causing brownouts. what does that mean to you, servos that slow down, "brown" power to the rx or satellite and under extreme circumstances, it can cause a system reset and a crash. this is why its a good idea on larger birds with high current draw equipment to power that equipment seperately than the beastx
