Sorry about your... I dunno why this word is used, but... luck? Lol, hopefully the crash jitters are worked out for ya and you can settle the thumbs back in. I know when I first started out that every time I crashed (quite a bit at first ) it took about 5-10 flights to get my thumbs back to normal. Now if I crash I get the jolt when it happens, a little fluttery in the first half a minute or so of maiden after repair and then I'm good to go. Keep at it! I've had a few crashes just like that one. One time got the tail boom stuck straight into the dirt like a literal lawn dart lol!

LH, I watched your crash and it looked to me like you lost the orientation when the heli got a bit too far from you, went lower and disappeared from sight with the trees in the background. You have pulled it up (good reaction) but it came up angling upwards and at you at 45° meaning heading a bit up and towards you at the angle. It got to be too directly over your head (not quite but close) and that's when you dumb-thumbed it in a hurry.
Not trying to bash you or anything, you did quite well overall, but I have 2 observations:
  1. Practice orientations before you let the heli that far out again. You seem comfortable enough tail-in and sideway-ish, but it's not enough to bring the heli back from far away after a small mishap. Full sideways and at least partial nose-in recommended before flying that far, makes bringing the bird back way easier.
  2. Watch the flightline. Never let heli cross over your head, keep it flying always in front of you. You can't really tell what's your model is doing looking at it straight from below, so it's very easy to lose orientation, and it's quite dangerous. I know you didn't get into that position intentionally, this is just something to remember.

It could help to put some orange on the tail fin for easier visibility too. Late in the day flights can make it harder to see what's going on, esp in the treeline, and I find some cloudy skies to be miserable to see a good outline. +1 on getting orientations down, you never know when a move will leave you in a funny position.....

Thanks for the input guys, and the forensic analysis! I accept all constructive criticisms!!! Yep, I just installed the Freestyle Hobbies belt conversion in that heli, and intend on painting tail fin and back half of boom the loudest damn orange color I can find! Orientation is a hard trick to get right! Lol

I found red canopy for SR visible at almost double range compared to the out-of-the-box blue one.
